Our Story

Writers Plot: A unique independent bookshop for Indie publishers, authors, and discerning readers. Shop through our website - http://writersplot.org.nz/ We are a not for profit incorporated society running a bookshop in Upper Hutt - currently open under COVID-19 Alert level 2.

It’s a proper book shop, run by volunteers (readers and writers) and we can recommend books. There are very few independent bookshops left in the Wellington region and this one will specialise in NZ authors (by birth or by choice). We focus on medium and small press good quality books, fiction, non-fiction, children's - everything, no matter where they are published in the world. Books that are otherwise fairly difficult to access here in New Zealand. Part of our goal is to provide an outlet for kiwi authors who can't otherwise get their books in shops because we believe supporting home grown talent is vital. Writer's Plot Bookshop has plenty to offer ... • An online shop - offering postal or pick up options. • The shop will be a venue for book launches/poetry nights/book club meet-ups/writing groups/storytelling. • Courses & workshops on writing, editing, getting published and much more will be run from the shop. • We also offer an editing service at contractual rates. • An internet presence (website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and a blog) - every now and then we have guest bloggers for our website. • Online writing courses - coming soon. • The ability to order books not easily found in NZ is part of our shop, we’re also happy to order books for people who aren’t comfortable with ordering books online. • It'll also be the only book shop in NZ to always have a published writer in residence. • From 2016 - we will be running various short story and writing competitions (poetry, mystery/suspense, romance, scifi, fantasy and chick lit.) • Themed weeks to celebrate various authors and literary characters birthdays. • We also provide a space for the Nanowrimo folk to get together in November.
