Hi everyone!

We hope you have got the latest copy of the Crier in your hands and are enjoying.

We have a wee correction from print for the Wai Word event on 2nd June:

The Katharine J Adams workshop is not at 4pm this is the public session. The workshop is by registration only, and for adults only) The correct time is 1.30-3.30.

Apologies for the confusion!

Hey, there's a wee mistake in the April Crier. Tobias Hall's advertorial about his severe pain and injury clinic has the wrong phone number. It should start with 04, so it reads 04 385 6446

𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗮 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗼𝗻?! 💧 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻' 𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻, 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗼!
We've been busy putting in the infrastructure we need to supply the district with a continuous supply of water, but yesterday our water usage was at dangerously high levels all day to the point where in the early hours of this morning one of the tanks hit the low-level alarm 😰
🚿Think shorter showers
💧putting on a full load in the washing machine
🌿collecting grey water from your washing machine to use in your garden
⏰using delayed timers on water appliances so they’re not running during peak water usage times (set them to go overnight)

𝗡𝗼 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 = 𝗻𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿

Our water usage remains dictated by the water available in the Kaipaitangata Stream, and the Frederick Street bore. With a dry summer predicted, the conditions will mean a drain on our supply from the stream, aquifer, and bores.

Soon we'll be asking you to share your water saving tips with us and others - there will be prizes!!!

Welcome, Dr. Fernandes! It's great to have you aboard the Carterton ship 🛳️

Hello, I'm Dr. Fernandes and I'm delighted to join Carterton Medical Centre. I've trained and practiced family medicine in India and Singapore. My passion for family medicine has brought me to Carterton and I look forward to serving the community.

In my spare time, I like to play board games, paint miniatures, watch movies, and stargaze. I'm excited to explore the beauty of Aotearoa, in particular the Wairarapa.

One important action you can take to in your community is getting to know the people who live around you. Why’s that you ask!? Well…

1. Communities that stay connected and make preparedness plans together, are likely to fare better in emergencies and natural disasters than those without a plan.

2. People who know each other are more likely to offer, accept, and ask for help when needed.

3. In an emergency, your neighbours are often your closest point of call for support.

Joining or setting up a Neighbourhood Support group is a great way to get to know your neighbours and keep in touch, so that you’re ready to work together no matter what life may bring.

📢📢 Hiya, folks! The Carterton Crier needs you!

🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️We are looking for 2x Zone Delivery people. As with the rest of the roles within our team, these positions are volunteer positions.

⌚ We will need a commitment of about an hour or so each month to collect the Crier from a Carterton address. You will then count out the copies for the street delivery team and drop the copies off to their specific addresses.

The next issue of the Carterton Crier is due out in about 3 weeks.

If you are interested, please contact Renata on [email protected].

Thank you!

Congratulations to all!

Voting for the Local Body elections closed at midday today, and the progress results are in, with Carterton District Council welcoming back Ron Mark to the helm.

Ron Mark is a Carterton resident and previously served as Carterton Mayor from 2010 – 2014, before becoming a New Zealand First Party MP and Minister of Defence until 2020. The progress results show Mr Mark received 2137 votes, and Mr Lang received 1714 votes.

The progress results for Council were close, with only 13 votes between the lowest polling successful candidate, Grace Ayling at 1744 votes, and the highest polling unsuccessful candidate, Roger Boulter at 1731 votes. The final result declaration will be made on 13 October 2022 which will include final votes already in transit and special votes.

Carterton’s voting returns saw 54.01% of eligible residents return votes, with an expectation of roughly 400 votes yet to be counted. The total number of votes received by each candidate is available on the Council website at cdc.govt.nz/elections.
