I'll be honest it been tough putting this series together. The production money for this series ran out way back in January so I'm asking fans of the series to head over to Patreon, become a patron and help me keep telling these stories.
On the NZDNBPODCAST patreon you'll have advance access to new episodes as i make them, plus a bunch of extra content all for less than the price of a cup of coffee per episode. I'll also be shouting out the new patrons in each episode and thanking them for their support.
Patreon is far more interactive, and I'll be taking a far more personal approach over there. You can comment on each episodes and we can discuss the history together, and with your help (and memory), we can hopefully unearth some forgotten stories that I've not covered in the series so far and get them out there.

It was 1996.
Mixtapes had become a major catalyst for the explosion of Drum & Bass in Aotearoa and we were all making them and giving them to our crews.
I remember toiling over which tunes to include, what tune should go where, which parts of the tunes to mix and which parts to let breathe. Meticulous s**t.
Over and over recordings would be stopped and tapes rewound, all because of that overwhelming desire for perfection.
I remember finally finishing this tape. I was living in a s**tty warehouse squat on Beach road in Auckland, opposite the old train station.
I was living with a guy called Tim Checkley aka Techno Tim, who I made my first tune with that year, and one of my graf brothers and artiste extraordinaire Kenz.
I was so deep into graff at the time that I don’t think I even had a normal style of writing anymore, which you can see on this tagged up track list.
My tag was Dskyze.
I remember making this tape for a girl I was inspired by. An amazingly talented artist in her own right, who then became my girl for a summer.
I’m sure it was because of this 🔥 mixtape.
These were some special tunes, from a special time, shared with special people.
96’ was a fu***ng trip.
