West Coast Surfcasting - Round 2

The evening fish at low on dusk was quieter than our morning bite, with a couple of snapper to 46cm but the kahawai were big! One going 62cm.

The sunset was epic 😎

West Coast Surfcasting - Round 1

Early start with low at 7.30 produced several good snapper over 40cm, with best to Snooks with a 63cm fish on his Tica Silver surfcaster.

Round two this evening with another low tide on dark.

Nice sea conditions all weekend with easterly winds.

Rangiputa Trip in the Far North!

What a great weekend away with the guys to fish off Rangiputa for the Iain 'Pottz' McCahon memorial trophy.

With plenty of Lanza Rods to test and new lures, it was all set up for lure fishing.

It was hard fishing, but with 14 fishos on 5 boats several big dogs turned up over 70cm, with Uncle Muz taking it with his 20.3lb fish!

Next year we hitting the west side 😎

The Kaipara surfcasting is firing now with solid snapper off the beach.

We easily caught our combined limit of 20 on baits and a new softbait rig, but we released several good lip hooked fish back.

Epic fishing on the west side, mint day too once wind dropped & sun out 😎

West Coast SN8 stocks - 640 tonne increase!

The west coast snapper stocks have taken 30 yrs to recover from heavy over fishing (trawling), to the point where they have been the best out on the Kaipara where I fish over my lifetime.

So what does Minister Jones do? Gives commercial quota another 600+ tonnes to trawl! Guess what... this will mean other species like gurnard, trevally etc will become bycatch too.

Will recreational anglers continue to catch good snapper out west? 🤨

Road trip back to Mangawhai on Thursday to test new jigs and softbaits. Workups didnt fire but with so much bait around we picked up fish.

Great news for Tauranga boaties!

On Mon 26th Tga Council passed to remove all recently introduced trailer parking fees at Marine Park, Whareroa & Waikorire (Pilot Bay) boat ramps!

If you purchased annual permits, Tga residents will be refunded.
