World premiere of Barry Vercoe’s ‘A Program Suite for Oboe, Clarinet and Bassoon’
Sunrise in Tauranga on Wednesday 4 May, 2017
The blue room
Above the earth
Where our heads live
Most of the time,
Unless we do handstands
On the beach
Because we can
stand
on our hands
in the sand,
Leaving memories
Behind
In our mind
Of playing,
Like sandcastles of time,
Straying from greying
Back to our inner child's delaying
Of life's inevitable,
Spinning cartwheels
On the seashore
- here's a snippet of today's sunny day
"We will rise" - a song to encourage us all as well as our Christchurch, Edgecumbe, Greymouth and Kaikoura friends, to overcome the very tough times in life when our world gets broken. And for everyone else who has a broken world experience
The lyrics for main part of song are:
We will rise
We will rise
We will rise with hope in our eyes
We will soar
Grow our lives
Build our dreams lift our spirits high
For we know
We are strong
We can rise above all this time
And go on
Building hearts
Being strong for all across the land
Because we build a hope
And we hold on to
All the hearts that hold our hearts
And we know we’re strong
Cos we’re not alone
And we live our hearts renewed
We will rise
And be strong
We will rise with hope in our eyes
And go on
Holding hearts
Building lives that soar to the skies
We will rise
We will rise
We will rise.

The other words that go with it ( woven in the spaces and behind some of the held notes - I know where these go) are:
kia ora
Whakarongo Whakarongo
Tātou tātou e
Engari whaka-orangia matou
Tātou tātou e. Tātou tātou e.
Titiro mai rā, e te Atua
Nga mamae tonu , Nga pōuri nui.
Me hōmai rā Koe, He huarahi oranga e.
Ki-a ko-tahi rā.
Tātou tātou e. Tātou tātou e
Engari whaka-orangia matou, i te kino

I would love to have a large group singing the main lyrics starting off with a solo singer, with a kapa haka group singing the overlaid section in Maori, - so that the whole thing builds from one singer to a powerful group declaring the words.... and film a video to go with it, that captures New Zealand scenery in a way that builds and inspires hope, so there's a general euphoric feeling when viewing it, and possibly include the group of singers....to get out on Youtube, Facebook and other channels, to encourage Cantabrians and New Zealanders that we can rise up and overcome our individual and community 'ground zero', that although our lives get broken, we can go on to build

From the deep it roars
Coming from the way of the east
To our shores
A voice
Like the noise
Of many waters
And glowing feet
Like golden brass
Come flowing westwards
Across the seas
And we pluck at its passing
Twining the song into a piano
Somehow
