CrewCut

CrewCut Having purchased Crew Cut in December 2010 Noel is now in full swing restoring her so she will sail Crew Cut is a 23 foot traditional keeler.

She has a full keel with a keel hung rudder primarily designed for off shore and was a very early J.O.G boat.(Junior offshore group)
She was built by Denis Lob in New Plymouth in 1964 who cruised extensively through the Pacific Islands and Australia. Having been sold and left idle for a number of years I purchased her from a young chap in Auckland who had only owned her for a short time. I had bee

n inspired by Crew Cut and the articles in Sea Spray magazine (The Cuise of Crew Cut) to build a similar boat when just 20 years of age which I did. I was very interested in buying her and restoring her for our retirement years. This we did in December 2011. We moved her by truck to our home in Tauranga where I work on her daily.(See pictures)We are now comnstantly in touch with the builder of Crewcut after he got in touch with me 50 years after launchinh her He saw an article of me in the Warterline magazine and got on the phone. I was absolutely delighted as you can well image as I sat with my paint splattered phone with Misty my apprentice cat and in the cockpit of Crewcut. For many years I had dreamed of meeting the builder of this fantastic little boat. I knew he had gone to Australia way back so didn't really imagine I would ever get to meet him. Sometime in the near futre Denis will visit crewcut .Crewcuts 50th birthday is on the 31st March 2012.
