Smelting is beginning here. Fish haven't cottoned on yet and they have been a little harder to tempt since the full moon. Looking good for the long weekend then.

Have developed a 'fast-to-slow' smoking method over the past six months and will outline in the coming issue, due online around 20 November. Here it is in action this morning with a recent catch, a 2+yr old 2.6kg hatchery jack, full of koura. It's about halfway to 'medium+' at this point.

After five minutes at full bend, I was getting hopeful . . .
Yet another to this issue's fly, nonetheless. Amazing how much spawning takes out of them too, being the same year release as the cover photo.
