The Youth America's Cup starts this Tuesday; we will follow the competition closely, the Kiwi youngsters (showing my age, they are between 18 and 24!) are putting their best foot forward against 11 other teams from around the world.

If youโ€™re into fishing or adventure on the water, we have a great review of the Tristram 691 Offshore thatโ€™s worth a read found here at https://boatingnz.co.nz/boat-reviews/tristram-691-offshore/.

Itโ€™s a boat built for action, with its iconic 22-degree deep vee hull that handles just about any conditions you throw at it. Powered by a Mercury Verado 250hp, itโ€™s got the punch to get you to those hard-to-reach fishing spots or diving locations. The Garmin Kraken trolling motor is a nice touch too, making it a solid performer for both offshore adventures and lake cruising.

For those who love fishing, the cockpitโ€™s been reworked with some clever features โ€“ live-wells, a step-through transom, and a sleek bait station with a removable cutting board. Everything you need is right there, ready to go.

At just over two tonnes with the Mercury V8 Verado, itโ€™s easy to trailer too โ€“ no need for a specialist vehicle. Larger EVs can tow it without any problems.

And if youโ€™re into the finer details, the new deck design and Bahama tan upholstery are not just practical but add a touch of class. Thereโ€™s plenty of space inside, making it perfect for long days of adventure or just kicking back and relaxing.

As the saying goes, when it comes to the Americaโ€™s Cup, nothing is predictable!
There was an unexpected run-off race for 1st place - a 4th race added to the schedule today - INEOS Britannia went head-to-head with Luna Rossa.
This came about after Luna Rossa suffered a technical failure with their foiling arm before their race against Alinghi, leading to a disqualification when Luna Rossa was unable to sail into the racing field before the racing was due to start.

When it came to the run-off race, the Brits wasted no time taking the lead from the start and dominating throughout. UK WIN! ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

This victory means INEOS takes all the spoils of winning the round, including the crucial advantage of choosing the team match-up for the semi-final stage which is coming up next week. INEOS will announce the two groups of two teams that will race for the finals, on Friday at 7pm (CET).

The teams in the semi-final round are now confirmed as: INEOS, Luna Rossa, American Magic & Alinghi.

And there was other action today, albeit more predictable: Emirates Team New Zealand took to the water, racing against American Magic. The Kiwis delivered an absolute masterclass in AC75 sailing, leaving the Americans trailing by minutes. Despite their best efforts, American Magic simply couldnโ€™t match the skill and speed of ETNZ today.

In the first race of the night, Orient Express lost its battle with INEOS, confirming their elimination from the competition. Although they are out, the French team showed great promise, and with more preparation, they could be formidable challengers in future Americaโ€™s Cup campaigns.

Racing Cancelled Before It Started On Sunday

Today's final races of the Round Robins were set to be crucial as the first team will be sent home from the competition, likely for Orient Express, but severe rain and lightning delayed racing until 3:15 pm in Barcelona. A second delay followed due to low winds, and after 5 more delays, at 4:12 pm, racing was cancelled entirely.

This would have been a relief for Orient Express, who took boat damage earlier and have been working tirelessly to fix their AC75's bowsprit; epoxy and carbon fibre were out repairing damage.
After rushing to get the boat race-ready, they made it to the start-line only to sit in dead calm conditions.
Racing is rescheduled for tomorrow with better weather forecasted.

Team of the day? ๐Ÿ”ฅ INEOS, with two wins from two races! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Other results:
* Luna Rossa beat American Magic, the Italians were clearly the stronger boat.
* INEOS and Emirates Team New Zealand both won against Alinghi.
* American Magic took on Orient Express Racing Team, with the USA emerging victorious.

Weโ€™ve got a good sense of how most teams are performing, but Luna Rossa's loss to INEOS was a real surprise. The races were fast, thrilling, and packed with action!

As we approach the next round, itโ€™s looking like the final four will be American Magic, INEOS, Alinghi, and Luna Rossa (though with the Americaโ€™s Cup, nothing is 100% certain). More racing tomorrow, then the final four will be in-stone.

An exciting day of America's Cup racing today (overnight here in New Zealand)!
The standout performance came from Alinghi Red Bull Racing, winning over American Magic and boosting their chances of staying in the competition at the end of the week when the lowest team on the leaderboard goes home.
The French now sitting at the bottom of the table with only one win, while Alinghi has secured two wins, and most likely affording Alinghi another round of America's Cup racing.

In other action, Emirates Team New Zealand dominated their race against Orient Express, the Kiwis finishing a staggering 3.5km ahead of the French - really highlighting the skill gap between the top and bottom of the table.

ETNZ delivered a masterclass in AC75 racing to INEOS Britannia, and in the second loss of the day for INEOS, American Magic bested them. Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team left Orient Express in their dust (seaspray) in their match-up, the Italians clearly at the top of their game paired with the bottom of the table.

A thrilling day of racing that has reshaped the regatta as we move forward! โ›ต๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ

Today marked a significant day for the teams. By the end of this week, one team will leave the competition and return home. The teams fighting to stay in the race are ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท Franceโ€™s Orient Express Racing Team and ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ญ Switzerlandโ€™s Alinghi Red Bull Racing. In todayโ€™s head-to-head, Alinghi emerged victorious, yet both teams remain at the bottom of the leaderboard with just 1 point each. The challenging weather conditions added an extra layer of difficulty, with Orient Express struggling in the rough seas, losing critical time off their foils. Both teams had another race scheduled today with a chance to secure valuable points and move up from the bottom. However, worsening conditions after the New Zealand vs Italy race led to the cancellation of all further racing, leaving both teams without the opportunity to improve their standings.

Today's eagerly awaited race between Emirates ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ธ Team New Zealand and ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli was a showdown to see which of the two closely matched teams, both racing AC75s, could perform best in tough conditions. Neither team disappointed. Luna Rossa made a strong start, pulling ahead of Team New Zealand, who experienced foil issues after crossing Luna Rossa's wake. Speeds peaked at an impressive 50 knots, and a near-miss with โ›ˆ lightning on the course added extra drama. Ultimately, Luna Rossa secured a comfortable win, and now is now sits at the top of the table. The competition is heating up! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Boating NZ purchases Trade-a-Boat NZ

Boating New Zealand, New Zealandโ€™s best-selling boating magazine, has announced the purchase of Trade-a-Boat, a digital-only boat sales marketplace. The purchase agreement, effective August 30, 2024, includes Trade-A-Boatโ€™s website, assets and intellectual property.

Trade-A-Boat NZ has been a part of the New Zealand marine scene since the mid-90s, so the brand is familiar to most Kiwi boaties and the marine industry. Trade-A-Boat NZ started out with boats for sale listings, but later added editorial content and morphed into a full-blown, corporately owned, monthly boating magazine. Trade-A-Boat NZ transitioned from print to digital in 2016, becoming primarily an online boats for sale marketplace.

Since 1986, Boating New Zealand magazine has provided a popular, cost-effective boat brokerage section in the back of every print issue โ€“ somewhere boat brokers and the general public could advertise boats for sale. The brokerage section was and continues to be an important part of Boating New Zealand magazine โ€“ for advertisers and readers alike.
With Boating NZ magazineโ€™s strong following, brand power, extensive reach and nearly 40-year pedigree selling boats through its brokerage and private listings, adding Trade-A-Boat NZโ€™s well-established digital platform to Boating NZโ€™s mix of print and digital advertising opportunities makes good sense.
Boating New Zealandโ€™s owners see the acquisition of Trade-A-Boat NZโ€™s website as an exciting opportunity to rebuild Trade-A-Boat NZโ€™s brand.

Their aim is to make Trade-A-Boat NZโ€™s digital marketplace once again a popular, cost-effective platform for buying and selling boats โ€“ one thatโ€™s run by boaties for boaties.

Throwing it back to our review on the beautiful "Awatea" Legacy Marine L35!

Whakataneโ€™s Shaw family have produced high-quality, award-winning aluminium trailer boats for over 20 years.

It is the family behind the renowned Extreme aluminium trailer boat range, but Glenn Shaw always wanted to build offshore cruising boats capable of completing voyages beyond the scope of most trailer boats. So, the Shaw family drew on its boating DNA to create Legacy Marine, producing a range of high-quality aluminium motoryachts to fulfill that goal.

The very first Legacy 35 (L35) was built for the team behind Hauraki Express. Hauraki Express is a water taxi and fishing charter business, which means it has high expectations of its fleet. Vessels must be able to cope with adverse weather and sea conditions, have decent range and good fuel economy, and carry big payloads for their size.

Boat Review
Buccaneer Six Fifteen

Based on the well-known Buccaneer 605 hull, the Buccaneer Six Fifteen has increased the 605โ€™s waterline length and buoyancy to accommodate the additional weight of the hardtop. The sheerline has been raised slightly to ensure the hardtop looks right and sits well. The transom angle has also been increased to 19 degrees. Overall, these changes have enhanced the boatโ€™s visual appeal and helped ensure it handles and performs as it should.

Creating a new fibreglass GRP design requires time, effort, and investment. Led by Gerry and Wade Gerrand, the Hamilton-based Buccaneer crew calculated that the Six Fifteen model would require an 5% more buoyancy. Increasing buoyancy helps the boat support more weight and adds stability. Any potential performance and fuel consumption penalties, particularly at higher speeds, resulting from increased drag were not apparent during our testing session.

Divecat Relaunched

โ€œThose who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are busy doing itโ€ โ€“ George Bernard Shaw

On Waitangi day February 6, 2020 my boat DiveCat sank while on the way home from a dive trip out to Great Barrier Island. The details of that event have been documented in this magazine, as has my search for her and eventual salvaging of the wreck on Easter Saturday 2022. This was followed by nearly two years of hard work, cleaning the hull back to bare metal and then the slow process of rebuilding her section by section. Readers of this magazine will have seen the many challenges that I faced during that rebuild, not to mention the disastrous effect this has had on my bank balance.

But the project all came to fruition February 8, 2024 when DiveCat was put back into the water, some four years and two days after that fateful day when she sank below the surfaceโ€ฆ
