πŸŽ„ A Christmas Light Trail πŸŽ„

Something a bit different tonight. The thousands of lights decorating WW 480, eight carriages and DBR 1295 blend together in a blinding stream of light in what's known as a 'long exposure' photograph. This was taken at Morley Road well into the night.

Tonight we visit John Heald and his latest creation named 'The Gadget'. The 0-4-0 'Beam Engine' Clishay Locomotive has run only twice since completion.

This Locomotive Mini-Documentary covers the build process, some shots from around the Tauranga Model Marine & Engineering Society track, as well as an interview with the Builder & Owner, John Heald. Enjoy!

Clishay 'Gadget' #12 | Built by John Heald

Recently we viewed John Heald's latest creation, a 7.25" 0-4-0 Freelance Clishay Model, using a unique 'Beam Engine' design. It was a stunning engine that worked hard and was forgiving for learner drivers.

View all of our photos from the event, at our Flickr album linked below.

John Heald from Rotorua, New Zealand, has built New Zealand's only Clishay locomotive using a Beam Engine design. Visit our YouTube channel to view a more in-depth documentary discussing the locomotive. Enjoy these high-detail shots!

Three years ago to the day, Mainline Steam & The Railway Enthusiasts Society participated in the Otorohanga Steamfest.

Taking place over the weekend of August 19th - 20th 2017, Ja 1275 ran various shuttles to Te Kuiti, Te Awamutu and Hamilton, with yellow RES carriages.

Here it is seen on Saturday 19th August, an overcast day at Otorohanga station, facing north ready for a shuttle to Te Awamutu and return.

πŸš‚ The 2021 New Zealand Railway Calendar πŸš‚

What an honour it is to see one of our own photos in 2021's release of the New Zealand Railway Calendar, produced by the Railway Enthusiasts Society (Glenbrook Vintage Railway).

The lucky photo is DBR 1254 entering the Kinleith Yard to unload passengers, on her second heritage mainline excursion 'The Thermal Explorer', in February 2020.

Want a copy? It's available now in all good bookstores around the country. Support Local!

Further to yesterdays post, here is an article Stuff has done on our whanau at the Glenbrook Vintage Railway.

The third largest railway operation in the country is appealing for help to keep going.

The amazing team at the Glenbrook Vintage Railway need our help! COVID-19 has put a serious financial strain on the heritage railway, meaning they face a grim future without our support.

Many parts of the local economy are struggling, but GVR serves as an important part of the local tourism market.
