Race Unity Speech Competitions | Ainslie Duncan
The regional Race Unity Speech Awards will be held this month, with a trip to the national finals up for grabs for the Taranaki heat winners.
The theme of this year’s competition is Ngā matimati nō te ringa kotahi – the fingers of one hand, and speeches can be presented in te reo or English.
Regional co-ordinator Mervyn Chivers said the theme was chosen because the wellbeing and progress of all parts of humanity are linked, like the fingers of one hand.

#LIVE | Joanne Peacock on Te Korimako Breakfast - Real Food. Real People. Kai Resilience Event in Pātea.
Joanne Peacock speaks to Tamzyn about an awesome kaupapa based on Real Food. Real People. Kai Resilience Event in Pātea.
To empower and inspire our communities in South Taranaki with the emphasis on ‘Real Food - Real People’, several community groups are getting together for an online wānanga and discussions around kai resilience in Pātea on 13th November.
“Nāu te rourou, nāku te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi - with your food basket and my food basket the people will thrive. An exciting collective collaboration between Taranaki TimeBank, Enviroschools, Sustainable Taranaki and the South Taranaki District Council is bringing together our Pātea community to find solutions around kai resilience” says Pātea Ward Community Board Member and Lower South Taranaki Timebank Coordinator Joanne Peacock.
“This online event aims to empower and inspire food resilience in our communities and is about getting the whole whānau involved” says Sustainable Taranaki’s South Taranaki Project Partnership Manager, Andrea Rowe. “Sustainable Taranaki is a community organisation that seeks to inspire and support people, businesses and communities to value the environment and act to prioritise sustainability and we see kai as a connector that brings us all together.”
“With the South Taranaki District Council’s newly adopted Te Rautaki Toitū Te Taiao - Environment and Sustainability Strategy - we are keen to connect further, as a community, and as individuals, to take action to address our environmental and climate change challenges” says STDC Environment and Sustainability Officer Brittany Rymer. “This event will be an opportunity for people from Pātea and further afield to connect and discuss how we can work collaboratively to ensure that South Taranaki’s food system supports the health of our people and our planet.”
“Our event will see a range of local champions from our communities that will inspire and encourage, while a series of workshops will be
