PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On behalf of the Rātana Komiti Marae, in conjunction with the Komiti Marae Covid Response Team and the Komiti Marae Communications Team, we have made the following observations and decisions regarding next year’s event.

Due to the current situation in the country, the evolving traffic light system framework, Rātana Pā community currently residing in the Red Light area and the many changes to the Covid rules, guidelines and regulations, the Rātana Komiti Marae have made the tough decision to CANCEL all activities under Komiti Marae jurisdiction for next years Annual Rātana 25th Celebrations. This includes the Kii Koopuu (Manuao).

Recent times and events have contributed to this decision being made and after full consideration, we believe this is the right decision at this time. The safety, health and wellbeing of everyone is important to Komiti Marae hence the reason we put the people at the forefront of our decision making.

This decision by Komiti Marae means that only whakamoemiti will take place on 25 January 2022. Communications regarding whakamoemiti will be sent out by Komiti Haahi Matua.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation in these difficult times. We look forward to hosting you again in 2023.

The Whakapakari Working Group recently held another wānanga session on the 25 September 2021. This was another opportunity for uri to participate and contribute to the ongoing Pā redevelopment process.

Several ideas were presented by the architect team, and ideas were considered by uri in attendance.
The presentation from 25 September can be found here;
https://ngatimutunga.iwi.nz/whakapakari-te-kainga-wananga-update/

We are welcoming further feedback and discussion.
Another online forum for Ngāti Mutunga wāhine will be held tonight to discuss the development concepts to date and to ensure a distinctly wāhine perspective and insights are captured.

This zoom session will be facilitated by Whakapakari Working Group members, Di Grennell and Waimaria (Tania) Hodges-Paul.

Kua Eke Panuku, eke tangaroa nga iwi o Taranaki ki te Tonga x

Beware everyone this is coming up.

We’re letting our patients, visitors and DHB staff know about the upcoming road works on State Highway 3 between Inglewood and Midhirst which will add about an extra 20 minutes to your trip from Mon 4 Oct to December. Please take this into consideration if accessing our healthcare services in North or South Taranaki in these months.

Only northbound traffic will be able to use the road, while southbound traffic will be detoured from the SH3/SH3A intersection in Inglewood, returning at the Beaconsfield Rd intersection in Midhirst, via Tarata, Kaimata and Salisbury Roads.

The work to rebuild the road surface is due to take about nine weeks, weather permitting, with a pause for Labour Weekend (22-26 Oct) and 10 days during the garden festivals and Taranaki arts trail events (29 Oct – 7 Nov).

It’s part of a larger three-to-five-year programme of safety improvements across Taranaki State Highways. While this work may cause some inconvenience, please be patient and always follow the crew’s instructions and comply with temporary signs.

The Connector Bus will also be detoured with delays and changes to a couple of stops. Check the TRC website here www.trc.govt.nz/roadworks-to-cause-connector-disruption/

The Whakapakari Working Group, who are supporting the Urenui Pā redevelopment process have been holding wānanga.

These wānanga are to ensure input from Ngāti Mutunga uri into the design and implementation of the Pā redevelopment.

There was feedback at our last wānanga that whānau wanted more focused wāhine input. In recognition of this, the working group have encouraged wāhine to create space for wider and deeper conversations to take place.

Due to our current circumstances, we will be holding our first wānanga online.

This wānanga will be facilitated by Di Grennell and Tania Hodges-Paul, who both are members of the Whakapakari Working Group.

The idea is for this forum is to be an open discussion about wāhine roles and responsibilities, tikanga and kawa. To offer and hear different perspectives, historical narratives, what we know and what are the gaps in our knowledge.

We are also keen to share of pūkenga, skills and expertise we might be able to offer each other with the aim to develop an ongoing wānanga space for wāhine o Ngāti Mutunga.

We want to hear your hopes and aspirations for you, your whanau and for the future of Ngāti Mutunga.

There are 35 new cases of COVID-19 in the New Zealand community today. Of these 33 are in Auckland and two are in Wellington.

This brings the total number of cases in the community outbreak to 107.

All of the cases have or are being transferred safely to a managed isolation facility, under strict infection prevention and control procedures, including the use of full PPE.

It's not unexpected to see a rise in daily case numbers at this stage. At its peak last year, New Zealand had a daily total of 89 new cases.

The total number of community cases in Auckland is now 99 and Wellington’s number of community cases has increased to eight.

There are three new cases in recent returnees in managed isolation facilities.

The total number of active cases being managed in New Zealand is currently 154.

Our total number of confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic is 2,698.

⏺ Testing
Yesterday, 35,766 tests were processed across New Zealand.

If you were at a location of interest, at the specified times, or have cold and flu symptoms, please call Healthline on 0800 358 5453 for advice on testing.

When you go for a test, please wear a mask, scan in to the QR codes located on site and if possible take your NHI number with you. This is likely to speed up the process.

For up-to-date information on all testing locations, please visit www.healthpoint.co.nz/covid-19/.

⏺ Contact tracing
Public health staff across New Zealand continue to contact trace, with a focus on higher risk locations.

As of 8am today, 13,230 individual contacts have been identified – and this number will increase throughout the day, as records are fully processed.

Of these contacts, 6,773 have been contacted by public health staff and are self-isolating, and 42% have had a test.

Work is underway to contact the remaining 6,457 contacts.

⏺ Locations of interest
The Ministry of Health are continuing to add locations of interest as interviews from confirmed cases are completed by public health staff.

There are now more than 280 locations of interest listed on the Ministry of Health website. You can find these here: https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-health-advice-public/contact-tracing-covid-19/covid-19-contact-tracing-locations-interest
