The Scoop Taranaki is sadden to hear about the heartbreaking tragedy of 3 of our local Taranaki teachers and 1 café owner.

Our condolences go out to the Whanau & Friends. ❤🙏

There will be a vigil tonight in remembrance of these wonderful Freedom warriors @ 7:30pm, Ngamotu Beach in New Plymouth. During that time, The Scoop will be putting on the national anthem followed with 2 minutes of silence and a beautiful traditional waiata .

If you guys can not make it to the remembrance at Ngamotu Beach in New Plymouth, tune in on our website at exactly 7:30PM New Zealand Time for a online remembrance moment.

Tyrese gives us The Scoop!

When he isn't working on his learning programme, Te Kura ākonga (student) Tyrese Epiha is running his radio station The Scoop Taranaki.

How did you start your journey with Te Kura?

I started my Te Kura journey through Northern Health School. I’ve been with Te Kura for almost three years now.

What do you like about your Te Kura learning programme?

The learning programme really suits me, like it was made for me. I found that having to fill out the profile at the start to see what my needs were meant we were able to put a plan together that suited me best. The programme is really simple.

How did you discover your passion for radio?

Well, my main interest has always been media, but I found that radio was best for me because you don’t need to be face-to-face with someone as you would in TV interviews. You can just be behind a mic. That’s how I discovered my passion.

Tell us more about your radio station.

As I got more interested in radio, I did some research and found out about internet radio. I was able to choose regular spots, and it was free so I didn’t have to pay for anything. Also, I could name it, so I named it The Scoop with Tyrese. Then I started to gain regular followers, and it caused me to upgrade my gear and kit.

The Scoop with Tyrese – I play the biggest and latest hits!

What are the next steps for you? What are your plans and goals?

Well, my first goal is to finish and pass my Trades Academy course for radio, second is to get as much outside experience as I can with other local radio stations, and one more – get employed by local radio!

What advice do you have for young people out there?

Find your passion and stick with it. Get as much support as you can, you’ll need it. Also, stay motivated. Everyone has a chance.

I am thankful for everyone that has supported me with my passion.

COVID ALERT LEVEL UPDATE

Auckland will be staying at alert level 3 for another week. More safety measures need to be in place before Auckland schools open.

Schools will not reopen on October 18, further health advice will be provided next week. Term 4 will start with distance learning.

Over 23,000 tests have been processed since cases in Waikato were reported on October 3.

This gives them confidence there's no undetected community transmission. The public health team on the ground, however, needs more time to confirm there's no spread.
Waikato will stay at Alert level 3 until Thursday. The move will be confirmed if it's safe to do so.

Northland will remain in level 3 for a further three days until 11.59pm Thursday, October 14. Cabinet will review the settings on Wednesday

The Covid-positive person in Northland is uncooperative. They're refusing to share their movements and they have a travel companion that hasn't been located.
