Did you know Mount Maunganui, or Mauao was once an island…
it’s now joined to the mainland by a natural sandbar called a Tombolo.

Thanks to this cool feature, you get the best of both worlds, calm waters at Pilot bay on one side and epic ocean waves on the other / well sometimes 😌🏄🏼‍♂️
