South Alive Invercargill Welcome to our page dedicated to keeping you up to date with what's going on in and around south Invercargill through South Alive.

The South Alive project is a community led development initiative, established in 2012, working to rejuvenate and build pride in South Invercargill. We’ve set up this page to keep you in touch with what we’ll be doing in and around south Invercargill to rebuild and rejuvenate our part of paradise. Our goal is to see south Invercargill and its residents aim higher, reach further, and identify ways

of making real, lasting improvements for all. We want a strong, inclusive, co-operative community that can work together and embrace everything that's positive about our people and environs. Our potential is huge and with your help and support we're committed to bringing out the best of south Invercargill. We’re mainly comprised of a large and passionate team of local people who have volunteered their time and expertise to help create a community focused on building relationships, improving facilities and coming up with strategies to create a better place both now and for future generations. The group is continually growing as more and more people are getting on board, pledging support and doing their bit to help out. Currently, 40% of Invercargill’s population live within our boundaries. That means we are not only responsible for building a reputation for and improving the appearance of a large chunk of our city, we are also a voice of 20,000. So we’d love to hear from you and get your thoughts on what we can do to make south Invercargill everything it can be. From here on you’ll see and hear more about us as we set about the task at hand. ‘Like’ this page if you want to keep up to date with our progress, are a former resident or even if you just feel some affinity with the south. We don’t mind if you don’t live here as we hope our successes will help build a stronger city and region, and we'd like to think this is a programme everyone will get behind and support. We are always looking for people wanting to pitch in and help out and we know there are loads of great ideas out there just waiting to be heard. We’ve got a great platform to work from as there are already so many positive aspects and opportunities down here we can take advantage of and build upon. So let’s get stuck in and help bring the South Alive!

As 2024 comes to a close, we’re reflecting on an incredible year at South Alive and The Pantry Invercargill 💛

Thanks to the dedication of over 6,500 volunteer hours, and the support of more than 90 local businesses and organisations, we’ve made a real impact. We’ve hosted over 85 community events, and our spaces ~ from the community rooms to the park, have been hubs of connection and support.

From Bucket Gardening to Zumba, composting to bike maintenance, and everything inbetween ~ we’ve also held workshops that empower and uplift our community.

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to our story this year. Your support has made a difference, and we couldn’t be more grateful 🫶

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, we can’t wait to continue our journey together in 2025 🎄

Looking for some family fun this Saturday. Come down to the Village Market at the Pantry between 10am-1pm. Santa photos, animal balloons, play equipment, music, sausage sizzle and lots of local stallholders with new and second hand goods for sale.

Our Community Christmas party - Deck the Pod, was a huge success on Saturday 🌟 Thank you all for coming along and an even bigger thank you to: Sono Sound Systems Ltd, Invercargill Rock'n'Roll (Dance), Invercargill Highland Pipe Band, Atuitui Charitable Trust, Lara Kerr, The Southland Youth Jazz Band, the South City Choir, Uncle's - Invercargill, Gareth Scott (our amazing MC), Flourish Face Painting, Sarina J facepainting Festive vibes, ALL our superstar Volunteers, Rotary Invercargill South, all the Stall Holders, our photographers and of course to Santa, for taking time out of his busiest month to be here for whānau to take selfies 🎅 We would love you to share your photos with us in the comments! Last week a team of six South Alive Trustees along with three staff, carried out an inspirational road trip to Dunedin, to visit three other CLD (Community Led Development) organisations similar to ours ~ Project Bruce, Dream South D & The Valley Project It’s always so valuable to share ideas and experiences with similar organisations, and a great way to learn from each other, ultimately enhancing the impact each organization can have. ✨️ We left feeling really connected and uplifted. Thanks everyone for their mahi and aroha, we really appreciate it. Check out this quick video below of some snippets from the trip and thanks again for having us!

Come on down for a round of Mini Golf ⛳️ A big thanks to our friends at Number 10 Youth One Stop Shop for helping us set it up here for the day 🥰 We've got the clubs, balls & score cards so you just have to show up & be your tee-riffic self! 1pm - 3pm but it is all set up now if you're out & about 🌟

Our friends at The Shoe Booth are looking for gently used or new gym shoes to help give our Community 👟 👉 If you have some that you'd like to pass on, pop in to The Pantry and find the bright yellow bin to put them in! Thank you for your donations 💛

The team at South Alive have done an incredible job at installing our Rangatahi Art Exhibition which is now open for you to come and see 🌟 We feel honoured to hold space for the creative energy of our local youth and we love that we can share that with our Community! Stacey, our Rangatahi Lead, will be organising a 'special showcase' day when she's back in the office. So keep an eye out for that date, to come & meet the artists and celebrate their talents 🎨 You'll find the Exhibition in our Foyer at The Pod, South Alive, 262 Ness Street. The biggest thankyou to the Rangatahi that sent in their pieces ❤️

Last week the South Alive gals got out of the Office and went to Queenstown, for a Volunteer Engagement Workshop hosted by Volunteer South! We added lots of skills to our kete, and highly recommend looking into these pop up trainings if your organisation is lucky enough to have Volunteers on board ⭐️
