TVNZ 2020 Leaders Debate 48 Percent
From tonight's 1 NEWS leaders debate. Prime minister Jacinda Ardern is correct: Animal agriculture makes up ~48% of New Zealand's greenhouse gas pollution. Transport is second, with just ~20%. Farming all these animals creates over twice the greenhouse gas emissions as all our cars and trucks.
We should still switch to electric! But let's also focus on the elephant in the room. And as the rest of the world catches up in switching to renewable energy, and moves away from fossil fuels....the rest of the world will also find animal agriculture to be a HUGE problem. Let's work with farmers now to solve this transition.
Years ago, we asked Immi the Vegan for an INVSOC badge cameo in her upcoming video series. And now in 2020, pinned to the coolest vegan man ever, here it is!

Eco Fest 2018
Spring Eco Fest ROCKED! Jordan, Ixia, Luke, Stenny and Katy all had a great time sharing samples of ZENZO vegan cheese - free of dirty dairy.
Stenny's scrumptious cranberry and cashew brownies went down a treat, along with our message of compassion for animals. It's so freaking cool to see so many more SOYthlanders giving up dairy, taking a stand for our animal friends :-)
* "Animals are being slaughtered, I gave up eating meat."
*"Hopefully being vegan one day. I dropped off bacon, then its going to be lamb next, and then beef, and then chicken. I dunno if I could do fish though, I love fish."
("WHY DID YOU GIVE UP BACON?")
"Because I love pigs! Because they're very intelligent and it makes me sad thinking that they know they're going to die. That's horrible!"
Flying Over The Feedlot ad
Flying over Ashburton's 19,000 cow feedlot. Imagine if the pilot came on the intercom and pointed out the hideous animal cruelty below......
Now that Air New Zealand serves the meat free "Impossible Burger" on select flights, its easier than ever to imagine a world without killing animals. A kinder world, A Vegan Future.
Electric cars, veganism and zero carbon National
We rolled in the electric VEG4Nmobile to the New Zealand National Party's net Zero Carbon meeting.
Sarah Dowie MP kicked off the Ascot Park Hotel event, with National's climate change spokesperson Todd Muller MP warning us not to be too "pure" in seeking effective yet expensive protection for our environment.
With animal agriculture the "19,000 cow feedlot in the room"*, will we have the courage to embrace a low carbon economy? Will we lead the world in being sustainable, will we finally match up with our international branding of "100% pure New Zealand"?
Or will we talk a big game but run away from any real environmental protections, to continue bleeding dry the sacrificial dairy cash cow?
Innovative New Zealand companies like Sunfed Meats could be a perfect solution. Their “chicken-free chicken” is vegan, made from yellow peas, and an order of magnitude better for the environment. Negligible greenhouse gases, as a legume it actually self fertilises the soil as it grows! With Shama and the team ramping up to export to the world......you’ll find it in the Countdown chilled aisle ;-)
Zero Carbon Freemasons for the environment!
With diverse points of view shared within the Freemasons super duper temple, it was a great evening for environmental discussion.
INVSOC members Emma and Jordan attended the Ministry for the Environment's Zero Carbon Bill consultation meeting. Armed with a stack of Warehouse Stationery $1.78 A3 prints, Jordan highlighted how the Ministry's own figures specifically point to animal agriculture emitting the vast majority of New Zealand's greenhouse gases. Heck, dairy cows alone create 22.9% of our gases, more than all forms of transport! (19.1%)
We all understand ways to reduce transport emissions, and the future seems electric - Jordan has a Nissan Leaf zipping its way down to Invers right now!
But how do we realistically reduce animal agricultural emissions? As more and more New Zealanders go vegan, will farmers be supported into new businesses?
Would dairy farmers get government support to transition to a more sustainable future?
Afterwards, we chatted with several animal farmers potentially affected by the bill - overheard at 2m40s of the video: "support our farmers, buy a lamb chop!". Jordan replied back, we support Southland's future oatmilk ventures! :-)
FREE VEGAN ICE CREAM!
On the first FROZEN day of winter, we hit the streets with FREE VEGAN ICE CREAM! Countdown Supermarkets had half price Like Licks vegan ice cream!!!! We bought an outrageous amount, then hit the streets of Invercargill :-)
Check out the linesmen sampling Oat and Chocolate, with National's Sarah Dowie MP and Labour's Liz Craig MP enjoying Soy and Hokey Pokey :-) We also visited Venture Southland's Steve Canny with a selection of the Oat icecream, in honour of Southland's huge potential for oatmilk - and oat icecream!
With no animals harmed in the making, we're "Proud To Be Dairy Free"
VEGANtines Day
From the Archives: Happy VEGANtines Day! With hydrangeas from our garden, have a heart for animals on this, the day of "the birds and the bees".
Thank you to everyone making a difference for our animal friends. Thank you to Orphans Aid Opshop Invercargill for the Fair Trade vegan chocolate, BurgerFuel Invers for their animal friendly Vegan menu, and Three Bean Cafe for their soon to be expanded vegan range!
Dedicated to the amazing Ron Prasad, Melboune vegan activist and animal rights LEGEND! Happy birthday mate, right on Vegantines Day!

Outram Rodeo Protest Vigil
We joined The Animal Justice League's anti-rodeo vigil outside the Outram Rodeo. The vast majority of New Zealanders are against rodeo, so let's end the abhorent gladiator use of animals for our "entertainment".
Featured in our vigil video: four legged friend Miley (cyrus!), being hugged by a visiting police observer!
