Twenty years ago we released Unity Pacific’s debut album “From Street to Sky”. A potent street political retrospective. Rehearsed on Sundays in Steven Keys west Auckland garage, then recorded in one day of full band live takes at the old Revolver Studios on Pah Road with engineer Nic Manders. Amazingly, all of Tigi’s guide vocals were the final vocals. A half day of overdubs followed. Then one acoustic added and a one day mix…of the whole album. Tigilau Ness, Steven Keys, Teina Winau, Robbie Halcrow, David Parry and Tala Niko did an amazing job with Prajna Moodley and I looking on from the control room. Mastered at studio 301. Album Design by Tim Allan. Distributed by Pete Baker of Rhythmethod.

“Katchafire Legacy” is a poignant account about the enduring power of whanau, culture and friendship in Aotearoa’s most travelled band.

Special thanks to my friend, Bryn Evans for taking up my challenge to direct a documentary on Katchafire. Bryn has worked tirelessly for 2 1/2 years often doing the light, sound and film for interviews. He respected everyone by approaching all of the original “Revival” line up for interviews.
