Next Saturday on the 30th of January my cousins and I will be taking on the challenge of completing 72 holes of Golf to help raise awareness and funds for The Cancer Society of New Zealand ⛳️

It is a cause that we are all passionate about and it’s raising funds by playing a game we all love! Anzac Day has always been an important day for my whānau as it was a way to acknowledge the sacrifices that my grandfather made by going to WWII for our country and our future.

Although, he never wanted to go to any Anzac Day commemorations or even talked about the war until I was in Year 7 and had to do a school project on the war and that’s when I discovered everything there was to know about my Papas journey and time in WWII. During this time I was privileged with the honour of being given my Papa’s war medals by him for my 13th birthday and it is the precious gift I have ever received. So it was then my responsibility to learn everything I could from the man himself and his first hand experience.

My Papa was in the 28th Māori Battalion, D Company, Raukawa AKA ‘The Walkabouts’ and he was a mortar man #2. I had the privilege of having my Papa live with us for many years all the way up til my late teens and during that time I would ask him questions about the war which he would always answer with a big smile and a giggle, even when the answers he gave me were some of the most horrific stories from a time and era that we will never experience.

For those of you’s out there that don’t know much about WWII, especially the 28th Māori Battalions contribution to it, I’d highly recommend to research and learn about the great sacrifices made by all of those that came before us and everything that they had done to ensure there was a future for us.

I could honestly talk about my Papa all day and his time in the war, it’s such a surreal time in human history and it’s crazy to think that it even happened so I’m thankful for all of those that went for us.

Miss you heaps Papa, lest we forget ❤️

Kia Ora, I’m Uncle Jack Tai!

Raising awareness for men's health is what Movember is all about and an important part of that is looking after your own mental health and wellbeing.

Men's mental health is something that can sometimes be overlooked or underplayed, being a topic that some men in Aotearoa may ignore or not bring to light and that is an attitude that needs to change. We have to be the people that our family and friends feel comfortable with opening up to and also knowing that there are people there that care about us.

It is also a time to reflect on ourselves as men and what that means to us. Whether it’s seeing someone we know being affected by things we can see and intervening or even a call to action on us as men by calling out our fellow brothers who are in the wrong and not doing right. For some it may be taking action on the wrong things that ourselves are saying and doing in our own lives. Whatever it may be this is the chance for you to take that first step.

So this Movember I'm growing my mo for all the bros, lads and dads out there, putting my mo out there for the world to fully experience. Our donation target this year is $1000 so we’ll do our best to try and reach that goal this year!

And to celebrate the beginning of a HUGE Movember this year I will be doing a 15 Hour Movember Subathon Stream LIVE on Twitch, Friday 29th October 12PM 🔥

For those of you who don’t know what a Subathon is, it’s a livestream where your donations and subscriptions will decide how long I stream for! I could be Live for 4 hour or I could be going for the full 15 hours! It’s up to you!

For this stream though, I will be donating 50% of all money raised on Stream to Movember which is all about focussing on Men’s Health and Men’s Mental Health!
