🔥Outdoor fires restricted in Manawatū-Whanganui district🔥

Fire and Emergency New Zealand has declared a restricted fire season for parts of the Manawatū-Whanganui district from 8am on Friday 7 February until further notice.

A restricted fire season means anyone who wants to light an outdoor fire will need to go to www.checkitsalright.nz to apply for a permit authorised by Fire and Emergency.

The restrictions apply to Horowhenua, Manawatū/Palmerston North, Rangitikei, and Whanganui areas. The coastal area is already in a restricted season. The Ruapehu area remains unchanged for now, although conditions there are being closely monitored.

At this time of year, we do start to see more fires escaping from controlled burns, and starting large wildfires which can take days to put out.

Most of the vegetation in this district is pasture grass, crops, commercial forests, or unused scrub, and fire can spread very quickly through this vegetation when it’s so dry.

As we’ve had very little rain, and hot, dry winds are continuing, the fire risk is much higher than usual right now.

That’s why we’re restricting the use of open-air fires, including burn piles for rubbish or slash.

If you’re thinking about lighting a fire, go to checkitsalright.nz, which tells you what the restrictions are for your location, and provides safety guidance to keep our people and property safe.

🌞🔥 Hot Weather = Higher Fire Risk! 🔥🌞

As temperatures rise, so does the risk of wildfires. Here’s how to stay safe:

Avoid outdoor fires and burning 🚫🔥.
Be cautious with machinery—sparks can start fires ⚙️💥.
Dispose of glass and rubbish properly to prevent accidental ignitions 🍾🗑️.
Stay informed about fire danger levels 🚦📢.

Let’s work together to reduce the risk and keep our communities safe! ❤️🚒

Our crews, alongside many other brigades, have been working hard over the last couple of days to contain, control and extinguish a fire that begun in Parewanui. See the article below to learn more about their efforts.

This is a great reminder that “We’re just urging the public, as we go further into summer conditions are drying out, so we’re wanting people to please be aware of their local fire risk conditions.

“And just because we get a little bit of rain, doesn’t mean it’s safe to light a fire.”
Stay safe out there and please call on us at the first sign of danger ‼️🚒

The fire risk in our District has now moved to Moderate 🔥🌿. This means there’s an increased chance of fires starting, especially as the weather gets warmer ☀️.

To help us reduce the risk, here are some important reminders:

Keep grass and vegetation trimmed ✂️🌾.
Avoid lighting outdoor fires unless absolutely necessary 🚫🔥.
Dispose of ci******es safely 🚬🗑️.
Be cautious with machinery that can create sparks, like mowers or grinders ⚙️💥.
If you see smoke or flames, don’t hesitate—call 111 immediately 📞🚒.

Let’s all do our part to stay safe and protect our community 🛡️❤️.

Amazing to see our fellow firefighters, Feilding Volunteer Fire Brigade, being recognised for their work within our community 👍🏻 well deserved team!

Local Brigade Recognized with Award Nomination

After years of dedicated service to the community, six members of the Feilding Volunteer Fire Brigade were been nominated for the prestigious Ngā Tohu Raukura Awards in the Collaboration, Partnership, and Influence category for 2024. Their nomination was due to their commitment to the C.A.C.T.U.S. Youth Development Programme.

Helen Worboys, emphasizes the dedication of the brigade members: “The brigade members attend C.A.C.T.U.S. sessions twice a week, committing their time outside of scheduled shifts, employment, and personal obligations. They provide crucial support, encouragement, and leadership, and their tireless efforts are integral to the programme's success.”

The 11th C.A.C.T.U.S. programme is nearing its conclusion, with Year 7 and 8 students from Feilding Intermediate completing their ‘Longest Day’ on Sunday before graduating from the course. To date, 348 participants have graduated from this volunteer-driven programme
