MOORE NOSTELGA
It was after a 28 year career with Shell Oil NZ Ltd that I chose to resign from, after my then wife refused to move to Nelson to allow me to accept my promotion to become the Nelson Installation manager.

31 years after my resignation and with little contact from my former Shell contacts, thanks to contact my successor as Timaru Installation deputy Manager Alan Thorn, for the first time this year I attended on 30 November, this year’s annual get together of ‘Shell Old Boys’. Whilst due to covid Alan was unable to attend the group of ‘old boys’ including myself which totaled twelve. I worked beside several of these men in the Christchurch branch office, Lyttelton Installation & Christchurch International Airport depot.
Whilst over many years I have regretted leaving Shell as the management were huge supporters of my advancing career from office boy to manager of a staff of nine aircraft refuellers at Christchurch International Airport.
My Shell Oil nostalgia along with my long term interest in collecting diecast collectible & model railway models and memorabilia and noting the considerable interest in Shell Oil decals has encourage me to bulk import and sell on-line many varieties of current oil company logo decals.

For many years after my marriage divorce I lived opposite the Avonhead Tavern and presented live concerts on a regular basis ‘Moore Country Present’s Friday Night Country’ attracting up to 100 supporters each evening. It was great to return to the Avonhead Tavern for the ‘Shell Old Boys’ annual reunion and for Jan Matthews my partner of over 12 years to meet some of my old colleagues before we both enjoyed our favourite evening meal of lamb shank mashed potato, water cress, caramelized onion with rich dark gravy.

WOODEND BEACH COUNTRY MUSIC CLUB 24May19. We arrived to find the club's AGM in progress. Since relocating to Rangiora Jan Matthews and myself have been regular attendees of this 'with-it' club that meets on the second & forth Thursdays of each month in the Woodend Community Centre, 6 School Road, Woodend just off the Rangiora Woodend Road. Sadly last years President Marilyn Johnstone did not seek re-election due to the ill health of her husband Robbie. We were delighted to see our friend Kevin Taylor elected unopposed to the position of President.

On this occasion the club members were restricted to one song each after the later start at the close of the AGM which as usual took a break for the 'country style' supper.

This club presents the cream of Christchurch / North Canterbury entertainers, now with Kevin Taylor at the helm. Kevin is a consummate performer who brilliantly and regularly presents the Country Music classic 'China Doll' but on this evening it was the 'tear-jerker' 'Molly' that the audience added the vocal harmony to in the chorus. 'Molly' of course was a huge hit across all music genres in New Zealand, all those so many years ago by Paul Walden.

It always a treat to hear the Ginny Peters classic 'I Only See You' with club members both Myra Nelmes and Peter Smith performing the song on separate occasions, with last evening Peter receiving the accolade.

Being a huge fan of America's Connie Smith it is always a treat to hear Lauren McGlone brilliantly perform 'One Day At A Time'

At each recent club evening of the club a visitor to the club has added variety to the line-up of members, last evening being no exception with recording artist, Invercargill's Margaret Bates wowing the audience.
