It getting to the last week of school and the kids are quietly getting excited, looking eagerly forward to having a fun Summer holiday. Our middle child Denver had a great day today. He was awarded the most improved junior male for his Taekwondo club and got a Mr Clever book for always coming up with the right answers. Kids do amaze you with their abilities at the most unexpected moment. He surprised himself too. Proud of my little kids. 😊

Cooking for my family has gradually become a therapeutic activity for me. It allows me to hone my time management capabilities. I am always working out the different timings for each dish, the next stage of the cooking process, and determining which method is most efficient. It is not surprising on days when I almost spend my time in the kitchen experimenting with a new dish or tweaking an existing dish. It is always a great feeling when the food is ready, the table is set and everybody comes together to discuss on the day's events. Food in my home always encourages talk and positivity. 🥰

This evening at the hospital, I had a request to go visit a patient in the medical assessment ward. When I got there, the patient had been transferred to another ward but the staff on the floor had a go at pushing the electric wheelchair which unfortunately caused the brakes to go into an error state. I managed to ease their worries by re-engaging the motor to move the wheelchair again. When I managed to meet this patient and got to understand his predicament, he suddenly burst into tears explaining he owed his wife too much as he had become disabled and a burden to her. At that moment, I lost my calmness and allowed my feelings to overcome the situation. I berated him for having silly thoughts and brought him back to his senses. I managed to calm him down and explained how fortunate he was to have such a loving partner who was willing to take care of him through and through. I guess that is when I recited the vow at the wedding alter "to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until parted by death." became so true and emotional to him. He held my hand and thanked me for my encouragement for him to carry on living a life of purpose. After helping him with his needs, I left my work behind with a smile that I made another friend in unexpected circumstances. 😊

Proud of my little daughter for winning her first trophy for outstanding effort in martial arts. When we adjust our attention and reward effort, we promote our children's desire to do things because they matter, because they like it, because they find it interesting, and because they are part of something important. Rewarding effort simultaneously rewards autonomy, mastery, and purpose, three major elements of success and motivation. It also keeps children from shutting down in the face of tough challenges, and keeps them pushing themselves to try and try again!😄

I always enjoy seeing my kids experience different things in life. Today, I managed to take my boy and his neighbour on a 4.5 ton truck ride which i borrowed from my buddy to do some decluttering in the house before as a early preparation for the new year. This is also my first time driving such a huge truck which was quite a challenge especially reversing it! My little daughter on the other hand was having a great time trying out pony riding and having a field of a day trying her hands on the monkey bar attempting to beat her record. Feeling very fortunate to spend precious time with them. 😊

I love seeing my little daughter gain confidence through the friendship she forms with other children around the neighbourhood. Through her daily conversation with me, I could tell she is quickly growing up, becoming self conscious and knowing what she wants in life. It reminds me as a parent to always capture as much memories with them as we never know when they will leave their nest to see the world that awaits them. 😊

Helping a patient reconstruct his eye orbit after an accident. This would assist the surgeon to efficiently save time in the theatre and have a successful outcome. This is usually what i am doing first thing in the morning with the urgent cases. 😊 In the real world we live in, time is indeed is money.

Today my kids have called along their friends to make a gingerbread house. I love seeing them cooperate and showcase their creativity through teamwork. Of course, the final output is a beautiful yummy house for dessert 🤪

Today is a very special day for my daughter in our family. Partaking in a baptism, which is also called a christening, is both a spiritual and social event. It is a celebration of faith, life and hope for the future

Today, the kids got to experience a one of a kind experience racing. Invented proudly in New Zealand, Blokarts are compact wind powered land sailing craft, thrilling to pilot, fast and fun yet easy to learn and very safe, like a go-kart with a sail. Harnessing nature and the famous Canterbury Winds the kids got to race with no motor, just natures own power! Really happy I got to see my middle child have the courage to do something fun which he often does not participate. 😁

Taking kids out this evening to get their yearly photo with "Santa". In this digital age, I always wonder as parents, how long we can keep convincing our kids that "Santa" is real and that in folklore, Santa Claus gives gifts to well-behaved children. 😀

Amazing night to be able to watch my eldest boy perform on stage in front of a packed hall. I could feel his nerves going on stage but once the lights hit on him, the nerves just disappear and he sang like a natural choir through the night. Really proud of his performance. 🥰

I love teaching my little five year old Shania and watching her grow with wisdom. One of my favourite way to motivate her learning is by rewarding her with a special day out when she achieves a goal. Today, she managed to correct her number writing ( I have no idea where she learned to write the mirror image of numbers and letters?!) and even got her additions and substractions all correct. To reward her effort, I took her out tonight to her favourite boba tea cafe to get her strawberry Popping boba.

Popping boba is less chewy than traditional tapioca pearls. When you bite into them, they “pop” and you get a burst of delicious fruit flavor. That's why they are named popping. 😁

This evening while preparing to rest after a long day at the hospital, a message came in on my messaging app. One of my patients who was preparing to return to Shanghai after being under my care for 4 months had his wheelchair brakes malfunctioned by airport staff who tried to force move it. There was quite a panic for them as they needed to board the plane. Luckily they managed to get hold of me and I had to reassure them to calm down before directing them to solve the problem. They were so relieved and grateful for my assistance. No matter how far my patients are, I guess they will always be assured that I will be there for them in times of requiring assistance..🥰

Seeing my kids perform in front of a large audience tonight filled me with so many emotions. To witness them overcome their stage fears and hearing applause was an amazing way to raise their self-esteem and self-worth. I always believed in perseverance and tonight was a great example of relentless rehearsing to get an amazing performance ready for a live show. With annual performances like these, I noticed they have strengthened their memory to remember their dance moves, song lyrics, and their script. Most of all. to see them working together with their friends and teachers to bring all the elements together was such a wonderful feeling. Feeling so proud of them.😍

I love seeing my kids build up mental toughness. As a parent, it is impossible to protect our children from every disappointment, defeat, or scary challenges in life. However, we can teach them resilience. By raising them up to be resilient, they will always have the "never give up" attitude. Allowing them to make mistakes early will enable them to learn coping skills, problem solving and perseverance from their failiure. I am really happy to see them challenge themselves to achieve their goals. 😊

Today is my youngest daughter first school disco. She had been looking forward to dressing up and getting the opportunity to dance at her school hall. I am really grateful and blessed to be beside her, seeing her enjoy her first year at primary school, making friends and building her character. There will be so many lovely memories ahead for her to create. 🥰

Today two chinese patients were telling me they miss having chive dumplings from home. One had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and she won't be able to go home or even cook again. The other had a spinal injury while on holiday here. I thought maybe if i started two days ahead I should be able to give them a little surprise and allow them to taste alittle of home. I guess the thought counts even though I am pretty bad at kneading them into consistent shape. 🤣 I guess with more experience I should be able to do a better presentation.
