It’s shaping up to be a great regatta!

Welcome to the racing, S/Y Legend! This 34-metre Alloy Yacht-built beauty will join fellow New Zealand-launched yachts when she heads for the start line in February.

Legend by name, and by track record, Legend has proven race winning performance which makes her one to watch in 2025. She combines that stellar turn of speed with beauty, comfort and structural integrity to a level that set new industry standards for subsequent generations of high-performance sailing yachts on her launch in 1998.

Bringing a whole lot of spirit all the way from the Cowboy State, we’re thrilled to welcome back Janice of Wyoming.

This 40 metre Ed Dubois-designed, and Alloy Yachts-built, beauty has become a favourite both on and off the NZ Millennium Cup course for her competitiveness and camaraderie. There’s no missing Janice of Wyoming and her crew when they hit the race course and we can’t wait to see them line up against 2025’s entries when racing starts in February.

Another new entry for the 2025 New Zealand Millennium Cup!

Stunning, sleek, and on her way to the start; we can't wait to welcome Sharlou!

It might be her first time racing the NZ Millennium Cup, but this 42.6 metre Vitters-built beauty has pedigree when it comes to the race course. Ultra-modern and ultra-quick, Sharlou is as capable of sailing the world as she is taking honours in regattas, and on her launch was the largest carbon fibre sloop built in the Netherlands.

She'll be lining up to race against fellow Dutch-built yachts; Royal Huisman's Sea Eagle and Sassafras, as well as Janice of Wyoming, Legend, and Kawil.

I can’t wait to see this!

Set to soar!

Royal Huisman's 81 metre Sea Eagle is coming, and her massive sail area, light construction and acceleration mean we can't wait to see her on Auckland's waters.

Sitting within the top ten of the world's largest sailing yachts, Sea Eagle is a true sailor's yacht which combines form and function. This is set to be her first regatta, which chief officer Henry Say tells us will set the scene for some thrilling moments on the course.

"We're very excited to be taking part in Sea Eagle's first ever regatta down in New Zealand."

The regatta kicks off 1-4 February and entries are open now at millenniummcup.com

We're thrilled to announce the return of S/Y Kawil to the New Zealand Millennium Cup. Kawil last raced with us in 2020 and was a great favourite on the course, so we can't wait to see her back and racing on the waters of Auckland's Hauraki Gulf in February next year.

Captain Justin Bourgeois tells us he and the team are just as excited to be back.

"The Millennium Cup has always been a cherished event for both our owner and crew. We are all very excited for the opportunity to return to the racecourse in New Zealand and aim to replicate our past successes. As for myself this will be a first experience racing the Millennium Cup, and I am very much looking forward to it!"
Captain Justin Bourgeois, S/Y Kawil.

Congratulations to Yachting Developments, about to launch their latest build!

Yachting Developments is about to launch, a 34.9m custom build Carbon Fibre Sportsfisher. From the design board of Warwick Yacht Design, the vessel is custom built to make long range international passages on her own bottom. Thanks to the cleaver use of carbon fibre and weight saving interior, Yachting Developments is again able to build a large Sportsfisher that has the best of both worlds, capable of both high speed and long range, there may even be a little water skiing behind the Sportsfisher if the fish are not biting!

Steadfast is one of my favourite yachts in the 40-50m range. Designed by Ron Holland Design, built by Delta Marine in 1999 the 46m Steadfast has been to New Zealand multiple times over the years.

I first saw here her for the 2000 America’s Cup as Affinity sporting a green hull, in later years she returned with her hull painted grey as Daedalus and more recently Steadfast.

A veteran of the NZ Millennium Cup, Janice of Wyoming is as loved for the outstanding camaraderie and competitiveness of her crew, as she is for her billowing cowboy spinnaker and striking performance. With a long list of line honours under her belt, this 40 metre Alloy Yachts-built, Ed Dubois-designed yacht is a stand out on the course for her power and panache and, with her crew, an integral and very fun part of the Cup.

Win a Takacat NZ T220GO worth $1590.00 when you buy your show ticket this week.

An ultra-stable tender, designed in New Zealand, the Takacat GO Series is a range of specially-designed, portable tenders. Lightweight and super stable, the selection of five models weighing between 19 and 33kgs are easy to handle and transport.

Takacat’s GO series are very easy to stow (inflated) on cabin tops, transoms or foredecks, or can fold down easily to a compact size to be stowed below deck. This makes them ideal for yachts, launches, trailer boats, or for motorhomes and caravans as a small portable boat to get out on the water.

This Friday marks the beginning of 2024's racing, and our full circle moment.

At the turn of the millennium, New Zealand was in the thick of sailing fever. The America’s Cup was being raced on the waters of Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf and a new Viaduct Harbour had forever changed the way Aucklanders lived and worked in their ocean-facing city.

Twenty four years ago, we were also turning up the dial on a different kind of sailing temperature. From our home in Auckland, the inaugural New Zealand Millennium Cup shot out of the gate, with a fleet of motor and sailing superyachts making a heated dash under the March sun to Kawau Island.

Now we’re back in the place it all began. For the first time in a decade, the New Zealand Millennium Cup will be raced on Auckland’s waters. Our fleet will be taking on conditions which have been enjoyed by the world’s leading yachtsmen in America’s Cup and Round the World races, and experiencing the beauty of a harbour which turned a nation into sailors.
