When the ❌ Cause team were approached to help with the VFX on Time Bandits – a reimagination of the 1981 Terry Gilliam cult classic – we knew recreating that whimsical nostalgia was central to the iconic fairytale vibe.

With the year's end fast approaching, we seized the chance to hop on a cruise, mingle, and reminisce about our adventures. 2024 has been an epic journey, with fresh faces joining our team to tackle some of the awesome projects that have come our way. What an incredible crew we have - none of this would have been possible without their dedication.

We're immensely proud of everyone and are looking forward to an equally exciting 2025!

❌ The team celebrated putting the final touches on two newly-renovated studios at the Cause and FX offices with a team lunch last month.

The renovation prioritised a second state-of-the-art review room for remote or in-person reviews, as well as a new reception area. Our new review room will allow us to view 🎥 VFX shots, and edit footage and sequences for current and future projects in incredible detail and fidelity – essential for our line of work!

We’ve also added a fully-stocked kitchen and a new rec area for those late-night editing sessions, more convenient on-site parking for staff and clients, and new collaboration areas for when a bit of creative teamwork is needed.

We are immensely proud of Cause and FX Lead CG Technical Artist Mikael Moane, as he jets off to 🇯🇵 Japan to present his keynote on creating large-format content for the big screen at SIGGRAPH Conferences ASIA 2024!

Mikael has played a crucial role in helping us modernize and accelerate our development pipeline. By utilizing cutting-edge rendering software and optimizing our USD workflow in Solaris, with Karma as our renderer, we have significantly modernized and streamlined our asset and shot workflow in the 3D department.

As one of the most prestigious technology exhibitions in the world, SIGGRAPH (Special Interest Group on Computer GRAPHics and Interactive Techniques) has been a home for cutting-edge tech since 1974. We couldn’t be prouder to see Mikael share his technical expertise with the world!

We enjoyed a pretty awesome team lunch at 🌵 Rosie's Red-Hot Cantina - Takapuna last week, as a celebration and a big thank you to the whole Cause team for all their efforts. We’ve recently wrapped up a couple of recent, exciting projects (which we can’t share yet, but stay tuned), and there’s a lot to celebrate and be proud of.

A huge thanks to Rosie's for taking care of us and providing such a fantastic spread! 🌮🌯

As part of a 30-person delegation organised by the NZ Film Commission representing the New Zealand film industry, our very own Amanda Davison will be ✈️ to California this weekend to showcase ❌ Cause and FX on the world stage!

Maintaining productive, positive relationships with industry partners in the US film industry plays an important role in keeping New Zealand an attractive place for foreign productions to film and produce films.

The NZ Film Commission has also compiled a list of local filmmakers, production companies, VFX companies and more in one document.

This week, our involves time travelling back to Istanbul in the throes of the roaring twenties in this exciting Turkish historical drama, Midnight at the Pera Palace.

To help create the impression of a vibrant, bustling Turkish metropolis in its modern infancy, our team helped to augment semi-built sets and live street shots with observation scans of currently-existing period buildings in Istanbul.

29 years ago today, the world buckled into the driving seat of Twisted Metal, one of the most iconic driving games of all time! 🚗💥

Nearly three decades later in 2023, the team at Cause & FX worked on over 500 shots for the live-action TV series. This marked a very cool opportunity for all of us, but in particular the gamers on the Cause & FX team who had serious nostalgia!
