As part of a 30-person delegation organised by the NZ Film Commission representing the New Zealand film industry, our very own Amanda Davison will be ✈️ to California this weekend to showcase ❌ Cause and FX on the world stage!

Maintaining productive, positive relationships with industry partners in the US film industry plays an important role in keeping New Zealand an attractive place for foreign productions to film and produce films.

The NZ Film Commission has also compiled a list of local filmmakers, production companies, VFX companies and more in one document.

This week, our involves time travelling back to Istanbul in the throes of the roaring twenties in this exciting Turkish historical drama, Midnight at the Pera Palace.

To help create the impression of a vibrant, bustling Turkish metropolis in its modern infancy, our team helped to augment semi-built sets and live street shots with observation scans of currently-existing period buildings in Istanbul.

29 years ago today, the world buckled into the driving seat of Twisted Metal, one of the most iconic driving games of all time! 🚗💥

Nearly three decades later in 2023, the team at Cause & FX worked on over 500 shots for the live-action TV series. This marked a very cool opportunity for all of us, but in particular the gamers on the Cause & FX team who had serious nostalgia!

Our team were pleased to contribute to a number of scenes in this gripping psychological thriller.

❌ The Cause team was approached to assist in recreating a pivotal storytelling moment, depicting 3,000 British colonial troops marching on Ōrākau Pā for the big screen. This project aimed to authentically portray the overwhelming presence of colonial British forces at the pā, as seen in the historically accurate film, Ka Whawhai Tonu.

We digitally brought to life an advancing army, complete with historically accurate uniforms, rifles, and the iconic Armstrong cannons. Our CG, 2D, and FX teams collaborated to layer musket smoke, cannon fire, and positioned troops seamlessly into the landscape, with additional ground integrations, with our final goal of helping to bring this powerful story to the big screen.

This project was all about telling a powerful story in the most realistic way possible.

We wanted to throw it back to when we helped aboard Our Flag Means Death Season Two, where we contributed to over 100 shots in the final four episodes of the season.

While Our Flag Means Death be sailing into the sunset, the swashbuckling scaliwags will always be in our hearts.
