It doesn't matter how many years go by The Cook Islands Crab Race is as popular as ever. International sales are picking up. I can post anywhere; and have these lovely glossy printed little books available at any time. There are glorious colour illustrations throughout; and the scenario portrayed is applicable to many South Pacific Islands. This story is great for reading to children aged 4 to 7. They love counting the numbers to twelve on all the colourful hermit crabs. Price $NZ17.00 plus postage.

Review of A Peacock in the Pantry, and some Rare Breeds on a Canterbury farm
by June Allen inspired by Glenda Goatley and her fluffy friends
It’s a children’s book, with coloured photos of birds and animals on a particular Canterbury farm.
It opens with a story of a raid by a bird thief. That is, it is the bird who’s the thief. Then the text moves to an explanation of various residents of the farm – rare breeds being safeguarded as part of a managed breeding programme for posterity.
Along the way it’s informative. I learned, among other things, about non-flying ducks; then read about several animal characters – a sheep with horns a metre long, a pig that plays like a dog, a donkey that rounds up ponies.
So, it’s a children’s book with a difference. Different is good. A Peacock in the Pantry reminded me of School Journals. Remember those? The educational intention is supported by the addition of a one-page vocabulary with explanations. A good gift for 8-12 year olds with an interest in bird and animal life, and conservation.

Cook Island nobility entertained the company assembled at the launch of June Allen's 'The Cook Islands Crab Race'. This story featuring a traditional game is a perennial favourite with young children aged 4 to 10. The pictures are enticing; and appeal to them whether they are readers or not.

A holiday in the Cook Islands is what inspired a New Zealand author to write a children's book based on the country's traditional crab racing game.

To those wonderful people who have given my stories a Like on Facebook, I'd so appreciate you adding a few words of review. The first of my children's stories is still very popular: 'The Little Glow worm who Couldn't Turn on his Light'. In the last year 'The Frog and the Kokopu' has leap-frogged over the little glow worm in library lending popularity. Wow! Along comes 'The Peacock in the Pantry' which sold 50 in the first week of publication. Thank you all so much. A review here on Facebook will mean my work can reach even more interested young readers. This story is available now by emailing [email protected]

Here's a new story, yet true about discovering a Peacock stealing cat biscuits. Then the book moves on, and has wonderful photos of many rare breeds of sheep, goats and more on a Canterbury farm in New Zealand. The animals featured are rare breeds internationally. This content will be of interest for all age groups. 'A Peacock in the Pantry' is available directly from the publisher in NZ and internationally for purchase on Amazon. We'd love to hear from you.
