This week, Managing Editor of xvox, Matt Burrows, penned an opinion piece about the upcoming US election ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ and its intersection with the Church. It was published in The Post both in print and online ๐Ÿ—ž๏ธ

"The great irony is that by invoking the name of Jesus to get votes, Trump and Harris are referring to a man who repeatedly rejected the lure of power in pursuit of a life of humble service and a kingdom โ€œnot of this worldโ€ (John 18:36)."

Last week we hosted a Mocktail Quiz Night in Auckland and what a night we had together! ๐Ÿชฉ Thank you to all of you who joined us for a fantastic night of trivia, laughter and generosity. And congratulations again to the St James Camel Riders Club ๐Ÿซ for taking the win ๐Ÿ†

Here's a question that tripped everyone up (including staff!) on the night ๐Ÿ™ˆ - "After CBA was re-formed in 1995, we broadcast our first long-form live show for 12 hours on Christmas Day in 1997. Who of these announcers was part of that first live-broadcast?" ๐ŸŽ„

A. John Hawkesby
B. Petra Bagust
C. Peter Wolfkamp

What's your vote? ๐Ÿ‘€

These are just a few of the roles the people that make up our nation's media play ๐Ÿงก

On Sunday, 27 October, hundreds of churches across the country will unite in prayer for those working in New Zealandโ€™s mass media ๐Ÿ“ฐ

This year, weโ€™ve also partnered with Rhema Media and Christian media organisations in the US, UK, Australia, Japan, Philippines, India, Africa, Argentina, Canada and beyond, to seek Godโ€™s guidance, wisdom and blessing for the media industry. A 24-hour live stream will begin at 12pm the same day for the Global Day of Prayer for the Media ๐ŸŒŽ

Mark your calendars and be part of this special day ๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿงก That they feel supported
๐Ÿงก That they feel comfortable to reach out and get help when they need
๐Ÿงก For opportunities to step into exciting and influential places

Last week, Phil Guyan and Petra Bagust attended Christian Media & Arts Australia (CMAA)'s annual conference in the Gold Coast โ˜€๏ธ, where they got to connect with other Christians working in media in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Petra was also part of two panels ๐ŸŽค

Here are a few takeaways from the conference -

๐Ÿ“ฐ We need to listen to diverse views, and not have contempt for other peopleโ€™s points of view. Contempt destroys relationships, and relationship is key for building community.

๐Ÿ“ฐ Radio is fleeting, but digital lives on โ€“ it can be shared and listened to again, any time.

๐Ÿ“ฐ 'Follow the thread' rather than sticking rigidly to a pre-prepared set of questions so that your interviews are authentic, engaging and vulnerable.

๐Ÿ“ฐ Simplicity is not the same as clarity โ€“ life is complex, and we need to bring clarity, not simplicity.

Nice to meet you!

CBA exists to share the heart of the Christian faith in mainstream media. We use top rating secular commercial radio to reach huge audiences of people who would never set foot inside a church.

Our vision is to produce a wide range of positive, thought-provoking Christian programmes for top secular radio networks across the country.

Real Life with John Cowan - airs from 7:30pm-8pm Sundays on Newstalk ZB.

John interviews a different high-profile guest each week. The conversation goes deeper than what they would be known for, exploring our guestsโ€™ upbringing, their views on the world, and where appropriate we delve into their views on faith.
