12.30pm - Planet FM 104.6 FM - www.planetaudio.org.nz

This week we kick off our summer season of TIFU where we bring you some of our favourite 2024 shows. We start with our guest Bex Chapman. Bex grew up in a loving home with supportive and present parents. She fell into a m**h addiction as a young mum and struggling with body image and self esteem. She says she quickly went from having a good job and a routine to her life revolving around using and selling m**h. Now 4 years clean and working as a builders apprentice, Bex shares her very personal story with Kent Johns.

Tuesday 10 December - 12.30am - PlanetFM 104.6FM - www.planetaudio.org.nz

This week we replay our interview with Korrin Barrett. In 2012, while living in Australia, Korrin was rushed into hospital after mismanagement of a medical condition led to emergency surgery and admission to the intensive care unit for an undetected bowel perforation. This vivacious, fit, and healthy 33-year-old, with everything to live for, was put into an induced coma and given a 5% chance of survival! Sepsis and multiple organ failure led to an induced coma.
Nine days later, when Korrin miraculously awoke from the coma, she received the devastating news that to save her life, both her legs and hands would have to be amputated. After undergoing more than 25 surgeries, spending months in hospital, and learning to live life as a quadruple amputee, Korrin knows what it means to get back up.

Slade McFarland is at the forefront of Mates in Construction, an industry initiative aimed at reducing NZ su***des among its workers. Struggling to deal with the end of a long and successful rugby career, Slade found himself sliding into depression and struggling to cope with the change in his life, he contemplated su***de. Where rugby had been his therapy, he found himself without that outlet but fortunately found support with a counsellor. Now he is giving back himself, letting workers know there is help out there for them when they are struggling.

Thanks to Jarrod Moyle for sharing his story of the importance of connections and social interactions to help with mental wellbeing. After experiencing the support of close mates, Jarrod realised that this kind of connection could be enormously helpful to other men going through the multitude of changes in their lives too, so he has founded a group call Morning Meet up. The group has just been launched in Auckland and has had their first meeting and the second meeting is on December 8, contact them through FB if you are keen.

The week we replay our interview on problem gambling with guest Justyn Larcombe. After a highly successful career in the British Army Justyn had an equally glittering and well-rewarded career in the City. He had everything. Stunningly successful in the world of insurance, he was being fast tracked for further promotion in a global company. He had wealth, a big house, a Porsche, a Mercedes. He had a beautiful wife and three sons. He lost it all through an addiction to online gambling, blowing three quarters of a million pounds in three years.

Today we meet Danielle Murray - Danielle had a traumatic childhood and turned to drugs and alcohol as a young teenager, and at age 17 after a drug induced psychosis she was put into an psychiatric ward. Danielle says the trauma suffered during those first visits to that institution scared her into being submissive and passive as an adult in her subsequent visits. She has found purpose in connecting with others and supporting them on their recovery journey.
