The RSL has said the Federal Government's response to Royal Commission recommendations was not enough.

While RSL NSW welcomes the Government’s agreement or in-principle agreement to most recommendations, a partial response undermines the personal sacrifices of veterans and their families. Those veterans and family members contributed significant effort to the Royal Commission process, often reliving their trauma, to save the lives of others who serve our nation.

“The Royal Commission’s recommendations, if implemented fully, would be a lifeline for veterans and their families. Every single one of the recommendations represents a step towards a system that truly supports those who have served our nation,” said Mick Bainbridge, President of RSL NSW.

The Australian Minister of Health and Aged Care has pledged his support to removing red tape for nurses moving to Australia.

Of the 27,810 nurses who registered to practise in Australia from overseas in the past two years, 70 percent have come via New Zealand under a Trans-Tasman agreement.

Starting in March 2025, Australia’s health workforce is set to receive a major boost by ensuring that internationally qualified nurses from these comparable countries are fast-tracked to register and work in Australia, instead of spending months tied up in needless red tape while waiting for their application to be approved.

Care England has voiced its concerns regarding proposed fee increases for Certificates of Sponsorship and its financial consequences.

The proposal would more than double the CoS fee, from GBP £239 to £525 per individual, imposing an additional £286 cost per international recruit. This equates to an estimated £10.3 million sector-wide cost for care providers already grappling with severe workforce shortages, escalating operational expenses, and funding deficits compounded by the Employer National Insurance Contribution increases announced in the 2024 Autumn Budget.

National Seniors Australia (NSA) has recommended an improvement to the National Public Toilet Map and incorporating dementia-friendly design principles as part of its submission to the NSW Public Toilet Inquiry.

“People don’t tend to think about public toilet facilities until they need them. Many people take their availability and accessibility for granted but for a lot of people, where public toilets are located, how to access them, and ease of use can cause real angst and impede people’s decisions to go out.”
