✨ The reviews for Saraid de Silva's debut novel, AMMA are coming in hot, and here's what Sanjana Khusal had to say via Aotearoa New Zealand Review of Books:

'There are still too few novels written by and about South Asians in contemporary New Zealand literature, despite South Asians living here since the nineteenth century and the fact that our cities abound in immigrants. . . De Silva’s first novel – emotionally honest, rich with story – feels like an instant classic'.

Hachette Australia and Hachette New Zealand have acquired world rights to THE UNRAVELLING, a debut novel from Rachel Paris.

Set in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, THE UNRAVELLING follows the downfall of a powerful dynasty. Turner Corp is a luxury goods empire, and its founder, Campbell Turner, has recently passed away, succeeded by his three adult sons. When an illegitimate heir is discovered, it leads to a family gathering at their luxury estate over a long weekend, where Cody will be introduced for the first time. There are tensions and power struggles within the family, but no one can predict how the first night will unravel.

Moa Press publisher Kate Stephenson said: ‘Think Succession meets Big Little Lies in this truly exceptional debut novel. Deft plotting, brilliant characterisation and emotional complexity makes THE UNRAVELLING a completely addictive page-turner. I couldn’t put it down and am so thrilled to be welcoming Rachel to our list.’

Rachel Paris said: ‘It’s a dream come true to be able to bring THE UNRAVELLING to readers with the support of the brilliant team at Hachette. I’m so lucky to be able to work with editors of the calibre of Kate Stephenson and Rebecca Saunders on my debut novel.’

Paris won the Phoenix Prize with her manuscript for the Masters of Creative Writing program at Auckland University. She has had a highly successful career in finance law, working for leading firms in London and Auckland, and achieving her Master in Law, majoring in International Finance, from Harvard.

Announcing the shortlist for the annual Kate O’Brien Award for a debut novel from an Irish female author. The Award will be presented as part of the 40th annual Limerick Literary Festival in Honour of Kate O’Brien in February 2024. It is one of Ireland's most vibrant and successful festivals which has been running since 1984 and it showcases in a diverse and eclectic programme the best in Irish and international contemporary literature. The Festival takes place from February 23rd to 25th in Limerick City. The event continues to honour the life and works of the Limerick author, while attracting prominent participants from all over the world. Building on this significant history, the Limerick Literary Festival seeks to promote Limerick nationally as a place of literary excellence and to provide a platform where readers can meet their favourite authors and other readers.

Shortlist judge Vivienne McKechnie commented on the high standard of all the submissions. “This year, once again, it was wonderful to read the debut books by Irish female writers and we are delighted with our shortlist which is made up of three well written, interesting and very engaging novels.
We look forward to a lively discussion with the shortlisted authors at the Festival in a special event on Sunday 25th February. This is an opportunity to meet these writers at the beginning of their careers and to listen to their stories.”

The winner of the Award will be chosen from the following shortlist:
Slant by Katherine O'Donnell published by New Island Books
The Red Bird Sings by Aoife Fitzpatrick published by Virago
The Last Days of Joy by Anne Tiernan published by Hachette

Meet Penny, Alice and Malin! did the most amazing job of bringing Katharine J. Adams' characters to life! ❤️‍🔥

Penny is the most reluctant death-walker in the history of the Thorn Coven. Brought to Halstett when she was only eight years old, she’s grown up under the Warden’s brutal regime.

Magically chained to her loom, Alice A.K.A the Spinner weaves the future for the tyrant ruler of Halstett. She might look like an ethereal fairy, locked away and helpless, but not everything in Halstett is as it seems.

Malin is the man who shouldn’t exist living in a manor which shouldn’t be there. Dark and brooding and entirely too sarcastic, he makes deals in Death which cannot be broken.

Pick up TONIGHT, I BURN this holiday season to find out more about these characters! ✨
