Jumla farmers bring herds of Chyangra to Myagdi for Dashain Farmers from Jumla district in Karnali Province have brought herds of chyangra, the mountain goat, to Myagdi district in Gandaki Province. They drove the herds of mountain goats for 17 days to reach Beni, the district headquarters of Myagdi, on Monday. Tirtharaj Bohara, a goat farmer from Patarasi Rural Municipality-3 in Jumla reached Beni driving a herd of 270 chyangras along the traditional trade route. The price of a Chyangra is between Rs 50,000 and Rs 55,000, said Bohara. The arrival of herds of mountain goats in Myagdi gives the feeling of the start of Dashain festival. The demand for chyangra from Mustang remains high during festivals like Dashain and Tihar as these goats feed on highland herbs. As the meat of mountain goats is considered delicious and nutritious, it is usual to consume the meat of mountain goats and sheep in Dashain. Three years ago a mountain goat was available at Rs 25,000.
