successful controlled blast of the dyke wall, diverting part of the Swat River into the tunnel
At Mohmand Dam Hydropower project, concrete dyke was successfully blasted to divert part of the Swat River into the tunnel. This diversion is a crucial step in preparing the site for the construction of the CFRD (Concrete Faced Rockfill Dam).
The CFRD will stand 213 meters high and 760 meters long, with a reservoir capacity of 1.293 million acre-feet (MAF), a maximum power generation capacity of 800 MW, and will command 17,000 acres. It will be one of the top five largest CFRD dams in the world and will feature the largest Ogee-Shaped Spillway currently under construction in the country. This milestone underscores our progress, with WAPDA as the client, NESPAK, SMEC, and ACE JV as the consultant, and CGGC and Descon JV as the contractors.

Under construction Jagran-II HPP
By the grace of All mighty Allah, the Project team accomplished the diversion of river stage two at the Jaggran II hydropower Project in Neelum valley Azad Kashmir.
Jagran river is a tributary of Neelum River, which confluences with it at Kundal Shahi in AJ&K. A number of hydropower schemes have been identified on Jagran River out of which JHPP-I (30.4 MW) is operational and JHPP-II (48 MW) is under construction by FWO-HMC-CNTIC-BITC JV. The project is being financed by Power Development Organization AJ&K. FWO is undertaking civil works of the project which includes Weir structure, De-sander, 5Km tunnels, Surge Tank, Vertical Shafts, and a Power house.

Diamer Basha Dam | Construction Activities | March 2023
Pakistan's strategic important project "Diamer Bhasha dam" is under construction since the last quarter of 2019. This multi-purpose dam will be used for water storage, flood mitigation, diverting water for irrigation, and vitally for the generation of cheap energy. Since then, construction activities are going on around the clock and accelerated with the passage of time.

Dasu Hydropower Project - Mighty River Indus diverted for construction of Dam weir
Major milestone crossed at Dasu Hydropower Project
River Indus stands diverted
February 19, 2023: The under-construction Dasu Hydropower Project crossed a major milestone the other day, as the mighty River Indus was successfully diverted following completion of one of the two diversion tunnels. Instead of its natural course, River Indus is now flowing through a 1.33-Kilometer (Km) long diversion tunnel with 20-meter (m) width and 23-m height. Consequently, construction activities have been initiated on the starter dam, leading towards construction of the main dam of Dasu Hydropower Project.
General Manager and Project Director Dasu Hydropower Project, representatives of the Contractors and the Consultants along with a number of engineers and workers witnessed the historic moment of River Indus diversion. Meanwhile, Chairman WAPDA Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd) congratulated the project management on achieving this landmark on the project.
Diversion system of Dasu Hydropower Project is comprised of two tunnels - tunnel A and tunnel B. Of these, tunnel B is complete, which has the discharge capacity, sufficient to divert water of River Indus during the current lean-flows season. The 1.5-Km long tunnel A, with 20-m width and 23-m height, will also be ready by mid April this year to cater for the increased water flows during the high-flows season.
Dasu Hydropower Project is a vital component of the least-cost, green and clean energy generation plan of WAPDA. The project is being constructed across River Indus, upstream of Dasu town in Upper Kohistan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The 4320 MW-Dasu Hydropower Project is planned to be completed in two stages.
At present, WAPDA is constructing its stage-I with installed generation capacity of 2160 MW and annual energy generation of 12 billion units. Stage-I of the project is likely to start electricity generation in 2026. The 2160 MW stage-II, when implemented, will also provide 9 billion units to the National Grid. On c
Chairman WAPDA visit Tarbela 4th & 5th Ext. Project
January 20, 2023: Chairman WAPDA Engineer Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd) visited Tarbela 4th Extension Hydel Power Station (T4) and inspected operation and maintenance (O&M) activities of the power station, commissioned in 2018. He also had a detailed round of the under-construction Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project (T5) to review construction activities on the sites.
The GM (Tarbela Dam), accompanied by the project management, briefed the Chairman about progress on the project. Consequent upon the permission accorded by IRSA for closure of Tunnel No.5, construction activities are being carried out simultaneously at five sites of T5 including intake, power house and switch yard. Electricity generation from the project is scheduled for July 2025 with completion of its first unit. Unit No.2 and 3 are likely to be completed in August and September 2025 respectively, it was further briefed.
T5 is being constructed on Tunnel No. 5 of Tarbela Dam with approved PC-I of US$ 807 million. World Bank is providing US$ 390 million, while Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is providing US$ 300 million for construction of the project. Cumulative generation capacity of the project stands at 1530 MW with three generating units of 510 MW each. The project will provide 1.347 billion units of green, clean and low-cost hydel electricity to the National Grid on the average every year. With completion of T5, installed capacity at Tarbela Dam will rise from 4888 MW to 6418 MW.
