Railroad crossing complete, still testing to find potential problems with the different rolling stock. Thierry made sure the centerline wire is securely connected to the track power. 😬

Focus will now shift back to the modular layout to prepare it for the upcoming Mat:Beat Heggedal festival. We will try to have another module running as well - so make sure you check the calendar! August 24 and 25 are the dates! 😀

Making a road crossing with a technique borrowed from my fathers layout - using a piece of metal string, flattened and shaped to follow the track centerline. Thierry is working on a program to control an old tourist steam train changing direction on the top station. 😀

A very successful weekend! Close to 300 visitors total, around 100 of them children. A lot of happy people! 😀🥰 A big thanks to everyone involved and all our visitors!

As a world premiere we will show the new NMJ Teak passenger cars before anybody at Trainroom Expo this weekend.

The layout is now installed in the display hall, and we even got to add more details! 😀 Hopefully the trains will run like clockwork tomorrow and Sunday! 😀

We can finally say that the modules are finished and ready for display this weekend! 😀😅 Shrubs and trees on the mountain tops, some fences, shrubs and water lilys, a T-ford and a fisherman and other figures were added on the last session, while Thierry made the main layout running. We are looking forward to showing our work for the public! 😀

Getting closer to the display date, and a long day results in a lot more details added, more trees, some figures placed, and my wife’s(!) Superline tested for the first time. 😀

An effective session where we managed to weather the tracks, adding grass on the rest of the sections and making a small potato/vegetable field. 😀

Ballasting finished, railway bridges finished, gravel road coming together! 😀 Jon made the pathway across the multiple tracks, Thierry started early and got the AI system working.

Getting closer - Jon painted the water and adjusted the colours of the mountain. Thierry is testing everything to make operations robust, and I started ballasting. I also began to detail the bridges. 😀

Finally some colours on the new modules! 😀 Thierry sealed the riverbed in preparation for the deep pour water that will be used later. Jon showed us how he made the mountain colours on the main modules. I followed his directions and finished one module while he did the other one. Thierry and I also painted all the non-mountain terrain with a brown-green base coat. 😀

Running behind - in posting our progress! 😬 Last week we put the whole layout up again. Thierry tested intensively to find and fix all electrical and electronic issues, while I got the other corner module plastered and ready for the next step in landscaping. 😀

More plastering! 😀 I started constructing the road bridge as well, and Thierry is chasing and fixing bugs in the electronics. I think we’re on track to meet our deadline!

Short session where I started plastering one of the corner sections, Thierry did some more cable stuff, and tested the second locomotive bought in Jevnaker after he converted it to DCC. 😀

Busy Easter Sunday. All cabling done and turnouts are now remotely controlled.

Some work on trAIn, the most advanced feedback system the world has seen. No soldering, no exotic hardware, only open source libraries, integrates in existing layout, only COTS hardware, this is case a MacBook Pro.

All the sections joined together, last tracks finished, layout wired and tested! 😀 First train has tested the circuit after some kinks was worked out. We are ready for landscaping and getting all switches wired up. 😀

Tracks almost completed, and first test run on the new modules. Jon and Thierry worked on the three core modules, and hopefully next meeting will result in a complete runnable circuit! 😀

Roadtrip today! 😀 Jevnaker Modelljernbanemesse was a chance to find some steam engines that can pass as Norwegian locomotives for the Heggedal Station. Mission accomplished - engines came back with us.

Track laying coming along! 😀 We also had a couple of visitors - a friend of Thierry with his 15 year old diorama building daughter. Always nice to share techniques and show what we do here.

A real marathon building evening resulted in 6(!) new modules for the shadow station. 5 of them needed for the “Minimum Viable Product” as the programmers on the team call it. 😬 The last one is for a planned extension. Tracks are laid for visual confirmation - we need a few more evenings before we can start test runs. 😀
