These rooms can easily function as a live room and control room, with two-way communication and lots of analog sends/reurns. Wrap’s AV Lab is a suite of sound-proofed rooms designed and built to a high standard, with a flexible range of high-end professional equipment. These rooms were built in response to the number of musicians, composers and sonic artists that were already involved in productio
ns at Wrap, and a clear demand for dedicated spaces and equipment for various types of production where critical listening and musical room acoustics are important. The AV Lab features a highly flexible modular digital mixing system (Allen & Heath Dlive) as well as extensive analog patching possibilities and a quality 24 channel analog mixer (Allen & Heath GS-R24M) with motorised faders, DAW transport section and integrated DA/AD converters. We also offer a range of high quality professional microphones for studio, film and live applications, as well as smaller and simpler mixers, sound cards, and other useful equipment. We have an extensive range of backline for bands/musicians/ensembles who want to rehears and/or record in the AV Lab (or other spaces at Wrap). Where necessary Wrap can provide a competent sound engineer and/or technicians to support your project, or in some cases you can bring your own technician/engineer (subject to our approval). Residencies:
It is possible to apply for a residency in Wrap’s AV Lab. Typically we strive to enable one residency per year, but there is no formal application process or deadline, and the quantity and length of residencies depends on the nature of applications we receive. Examples of suitable residency goals would be: sound-design projects, composing and scoring, mixing and post-production, recording, or interdisciplinary work in which sound plays an important role. The AV Lab is rented out on the same basic terms as other facilities at Wrap. Professional artists who have a specific project with a start and an end date for production, can apply to book the space and appropriate equipment. Bookings are made on a first-come-first-served basis with no other criteria, although a clear understanding of ones technical needs and the equipment to be used is required. Wrap encourages people to use professional technicians who are already familiar with the AV Lab, and we have a paid technical internship with which we train new technicians, as well as various series of events that enable us to work with technicians from all around town, so there are more and more technicians to choose from.
