It's been a beautiful long journey working on ALIF n Zaki with their wild adventures! After 3 years of re-iterations, ALIF finally made it to launch date today at Shaw Theater.

We had incredible talents from Singapore for this Lee Kwan Yew's Bilingualism project. Production and animation people of and did above and beyond scouting for the best talents to bring this idea to fruition. This young man and machine adventures are written by published author Zuzanita Zakaria. It's been her dream to bring this characters to life!

So honored to be given the wand to work the audio aspects from start to finish. From creating the original theme song which was sung by Amir Mansor, to the blind-selection of voices for all characters involved in each episode.

It didn't come as a surprise, voices selected for the main characters happen to be award winning talents; Atie Malek (as Zaki) and Fazlyna Aziz (as ALIF). It was a blind selection from a pool of talents. Coincidence? I don't think so. Ask any hardened VO artists and they will tell you, 'It is harder to do voice acting than it is too act on screen!' Many that crossed over into animation actually need extra vocal coaching to bring the character to life. And we had a great team of them in this project.

If you're curious how talented Rizman Putra is out of the dance and visual podium, you have to hear his portrayal as an octopus. Yep. He was in and out of the recording studio kickin it in as the daunting Sotong (Octopus) in 1st opening episode with pirates under the Sulawesi sea!

Someone that uses today's bouncing speaker don't need to acoustically treat their room. And that someone that wants to treat their room can still buy actual speakers mounted up high.

It will never sound the exactly as it was in the mastering studio. But the closest you can get - is when they listen on their atmos enabled headphones. Period.

Need to get that tin proper on the Litz..
Friend had problems with his P2 . Hum and only one channel of audio. I tried switching the stereo RCA, used another diamond stylus and finally resorted to getting complete rewire kit. It wasn't cheap!!

By the time I was done and invested, he said I can keep it!! 😍 Thanks !! His new REGA6 comes with separate PSU for fine electronic speed control. Much more stable system they say.

After all this, I can officially say I can service REGA turntables. Sometimes the literal 'audio engineering' really gets the nerd out in me. With lots of patience and old knowledge, one can learn to understand how this medium works. It is truly not complicated compared to today's digital media players!

But would I say music listening from vinyl is better than digital source this days? Now thats a chapter we can discuss another day. For now, if you like the music, just enjoy it however way you can get it.

But if you're in the industry this day and age.. and looking to make money from producing music. The manner on how you 'distribute it', in lack of other words, can be daunting. The word should be music sales before distribution. The algorithm within streaming services have been notorious to not work for new musicians lately. If you don't get 1000 streams a month, don't bother to check your monthly paycheck. In retrospect, to overcome this, physical media is making a comeback. To survive and keep the art of music or music production alive, more of us are putting our bet on physical medium or live performances (or even merchandising if you've grown have a fan base).

Why and how did I drift to this subject?? Because with the easiness of access to music this days, and with the rapid development of AI in creative art forms, it is important that we know what's truly happening to the ones that actually spend time to make this art in it's true-est peer-to-peer form.

Payments direct to source is the best way to keep the art flowing and appreciated. Buy physical music. Or get it direct from source. Like the artist? Buy them coffee via Patreon or send them that compliment.

Music - how we consume - needs fixing.

The first time I hear Loire Cotler belch out the banshee cry in Gob Jabbar, I can't help but hear the harmonica tension done in L'homme à l'Harmonica. Spirit of Charles Bronson in steamy scorching sun, silverscreen turned 4:3 and Ennio Moriconne flew around the room..
Then slowly this spaghetti western scene fades out and I'm brought back into the stretched sandstorm with Lisan al Gaib. Can't help but wonder if Hans Zimmer or Loire was referencing that hypnotizing melody to honor Morricone?
