Made a new card a few weeks ago to accompany my collection. I had fun designing an image that illustrates my love for handcraft and colours.

Made a new design portfolio with an overview of my work today and re-discovered designs and photographs from the past. This dress from my graduation collection is from a long time ago and photographed again today for an overview of my work as a textile designer.

Hoping to find more time to create, with a personal project about my roots. Specifically the search for my foremothers, the women who came before me and are hard to find in the archives, because of their position in colonial times. Who were they and what were their lives like? What still lives on in our generation and how do we honour them?

Any advice on funding for creative and cultural projects is welcome!

This Saturday me, my brother and sister will start our research about our family history together with other Indo Europeans from our generation, under the guidance of . We’ve already discovered a lot together while preparing for it, like an old family photo album from the Dutch Indies and old documents.

Our Dutch Colonial history is a mystery to us, partly because it was not thought accurately at school and because our family has gone through a lot during their lifetime and tried to fit in after coming to Holland in 1958. So far we discovered 2 documents from Japanese prison camps and I learned the name of the camp where my grandmother was during the Bersiap (politionele acties). I found an eye witness account about the camp online, but couldn’t read it, it was too painful. The best discovery so far is finding the name of one of our foremothers, the grandmother of my grandfather who came from the Island of Nias. Her name was Taisa.

Here’s to tracing my roots with my siblings, discovering a new part of my own identity and creating some awareness about our Dutch Colonial history.

Cutting some new leather belts in BIO kobalt. Our leather is made in Portugal and is biodegradable. It’s a privilege to work with such a lovely material in one of my favourite colours. 💙

Self love Wonder Joy Insecure Alone Hurt Rage Self blaming Tired Down Self love Wonder Joy The process of healing is like the tides. When travelling alone there is no escaping it. How do you feel? I feel everything every day and night. Despite off all the distractions this wonderful island has to offer that keep me wandering around. Let this be the year I learn to love myself unconditionally, no matter what tide, they are all assets of me. So no matter what comes at me, I will stand op for myself and protect my own peace. 💙 And yes, there is a creepy guy in the window. I found out afterwards.

Making a new batch of wooden pieces for my wall jewelry collection, with my favourite Japanese saw. The pieces are made of leftover wood from a local woodworker. I’ve been gathering some woodworking tools over the years and this is my favourite one by far. The thin blade with two different types of teeth is easy to handle, because you saw by pulling instead of pushing. Perfect for small and precise work. The pieces will be part of our wall jewelry ‘Les Formes’.
