Dank voor jouw toewijding en enorme energie, je bracht rust terug in de organisatie en hebt een geweldig team neergezet. Dank ook voor de fijne gesprekken die we samen hadden. 😔

Met grote droefheid heeft BCMM kennisgenomen van het overlijden van Bernard Kobes, CEO van BumaStemra. Bernard was een toegewijd leider die zich met hart en ziel inzette voor de belangen van componisten, tekstschrijvers en muziekuitgevers. Zijn visie en toewijding hebben een blijvende impact gehad op de muziekindustrie. Onze gedachten gaan uit naar zijn familie, vrienden en collega’s in deze moeilijke tijd.

Tja, wie met vuur speelt

Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Records Inc have filed lawsuits today (24 June) against AI music platforms, Suno and Udio. The record labels have alleged copyright infringement of recorded music at “an almost unimaginable scale.”

The plaintiffs are seeking damages of up to $150,00 for each piece of infringed work, and is also seeking to stop the two AI companies from training on the label’s copyrighted songs.

The RIAA is leading lawsuits, alleging that Suno and Udio have unlawfully trained their generative AI models on the label's recordings. The RIAA claims that this is “mass infringement of copyrighted sound recordings copied and exploited without permission by two multi-million-dollar music generation services.”

“AI companies, like all other enterprises, must abide by the laws that protect human creativity and ingenuity. There is nothing that exempts AI technology from copyright law or that excuses AI companies from playing by the rules.”
