Having an ethical work environment should be the main priority to the manufactures, as this is the essence of their work place.
Here in Amsterdam we have two pioneering companies providing an ethical manufacturing workplace(s), working on providing a better future towards more sustainable and circular fashion industry.
@new_optimist is a circular fashion manufacture based in the heart/centre of Amsterdam. The concept behind New Optimist is circulating the garments life by offering repairing and âstatiegeldâ service where you can return your garment, wether they can re-sell it as second hand or turn into recycled yarn. This mission ensures everyone contributes towards in circular fashion.
The production space of New Optimist, provides a safe and a healthy work environment, where the tailors are able express their religious practices. We took conducted an interview with a Tailor, he was super co-operative and optimist as he described himself.
@unitedrepaircentre is a clothing repair atelier based in the west of Amsterdam, working giving garments a second life by providing repair services for multiple brands, as well as providing work opportunities for tailors from refugee or immigrant background.Â
The repair centre provides the opportunity for the tailors to integrate into dutch culture via sharing their meals together during lunch this spread the message of equality in the work place. Omar a tailor at the United Repair Centre expressed his thoughts about his career developing on a regular basis from the work and machinery he is exposed to at the United Repair Centre.
The mentioned companies show great examples of providing an ethical and healthy work environment, where we saw that from the faces and words of the tailors. We are hoping for fashion manufactures to learn from them.

In a world driven by fast fashion, itâs time to slow down and rethink our consumption habits. Degrowth in the fashion industry means prioritizing sustainability over speed, quality over quantity, and ethical practices over mass production. Itâs about creating timeless pieces that last, supporting local artisans, and reducing our environmental footprint. Together, we can shift towards a more mindful, eco-friendly wardrobe. đđ
Tag the pioneers leading the charge towards degrowth!
This edition of the State of Fashion Biennale is entitled Ties that Bind, where State of Fashion spotlights alternative approaches to the dominant fashion system.
We now want to hear your thoughts about, what does Ties that Bind means to you?
đWe are extremely proud of European Parliament Member @larawolterseu for working for over 5 years on the âAnti-looking away lawâ. Making sure multinationals will be no longer able to look away from malpractices in their supply chains and need to take action.
âđťThis is the example of a true pioneer, fighting for justice. These are the people we should support. We all want a better world, then itâs time to show it, not only with your voting.
âđťPut your money were your mouth is. Try to think that with every euro you have the power to support a pioneer that is actually working on a better world for people and planet. They really need the support of the consumer. We do have the power as the consumer to change the system, letâs use it!
We react shocked when we see those textile waste piles, or act surprised when companies like SHEIN dominate te market, but weâre the ones that buy those clothes.
đŞđźLara Wolters is pushing for legislation, but we need to push ourselves to change our consuming behavior collectively.
đThere are many amazing pioneers to support, find them, support them, letâs make change happen, we have the power!
đĽOn Friday 17 May we organized the @vpro_tegenlicht Meet-up for @stateoffashionnl. During this Meet-up Lara Wolters talked about the importance of legislation and the panel reminded us that the power is really to the people âđť. You can watch the full episode on the website of State of Fashion with the link in bio.

đ There were such exciting days at the @modefabriek event! đ
We were privileged to be part of this gathering, a haven for fashion professionals!
On Sunday and Monday, we had the honour of sharing our thoughts at Modefabriek, alongside trailblazers shaping the future of fashion. There's something truly special about connecting in person with these pioneers â understanding their journeys, and visions, and finding ways to support each other's missions.
During our talk, we shared the couch with Anne, the co-founder of @Kintobe whose story and dedication to spreading kindness through sustainable bags left a lasting impression. Kintobe's innovative approach ensures every aspect of their bags is sustainable, and they donate a percentage of profits to charity. Truly inspiring!
The women behind @FloriaCollective captivated us with their beautiful garments and commitment to transparency. Their use of natural dyeing techniques and clear production information sets them apart, showcasing a deep commitment to ethical practices.
Also, meeting Bart, the co-founder of @Tex.tracer was a highlight as he shared his passion for making the fashion industry more transparent. During the panel discussion, Bart raised a crucial question about the EU Digital Product Passport, slated for potential implementation in 2027. How do we ensure citizens engage with this passport, understand its data, and care about its implications? It's a challenge we're excited to explore and brainstorm ideas for. Thanks, Bart, for sparking this crucial conversation!
Cheers to Modefabriek for fostering such meaningful connections and conversations. Here's to the future of fashion, sustainability, and shared dedication to positive change!
âThe collaboration with MUMSTER exceeded all of my expectations!â

We're still buzzing with excitement after the phenomenal 'Take a Moment' launch event! Let's rewind and catch a glimpse of what our Pioneer, @lisamarin.bags and our incredible partner Vincenzo from @truecostlabel had to say about this transformative project.
But that's not all â let's shine a spotlight on something that truly sets Lisa Marin apart: the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). ⨠LCA is a powerful tool measuring the environmental impact of a product from production to its end stage. Lisa Marin subjected their animal-free handbags to this impartial analysis, conducted by our impact analysis partner True Cost Label. The results? Beyond expectations! đżđ
In our latest blog post, we unveil the full LCA report, digging deep into how Lisa Marin's bags outshine traditional (faux) leather alternatives on the environmental scale. Swipe up in our stories to read the comprehensive report and discover the true impact of Lisa Marin's vegan handbags.

đŁâ¨ď¸We are over the moon to share a glimpse of the exclusive launch event for Lisa Marin's 'Take a Moment' campaign, hosted in the heart of Amsterdam with the incredible collaboration of MUMSTER and @lisamarin.bags
Last week, we had the honor of unveiling the mission-driven luxury vegan bag brand Lisa Marin's latest collection, and the enthusiasm is contagious!
Founder Lisa Eggen set out to revolutionize the fashion industry by banning animals from the clothing equation, and the 'Take a Moment' campaign takes this commitment to a whole new level. The event showcased a stunning new collection of bags crafted from apple waste, a true testament to Lisa Marin's dedication to sustainability.
The campaign, beautifully narrated by the inspiring @Kikiboreel and @Chloechante encourages women to pause amidst the chaos and reflect, making choices that benefit both themselves and our precious planet.

We are proud to launch the Kuyichi campaign âMake the Switchâ about cotton in conversion. đđž
Fashion lovers and brands agree: ORGANIC cotton is the way forward. Despite the growing demand, only 1.4% of all cotton worldwide is certified organic. The reason? Cotton farmers cannot change their business overnight. The transition can take up to three years and comes with strict rules and high costs. In the meantime, the harvested cotton remains uncertified, making it difficult to sell.
That is why denim brand @kuyichipuregoods and Turkish denim mill @bossadenim joined forces to support one farmer, Cengiz Karadeli, in his cotton transition. đ§ś
Now, itâs up to us to choose organic cotton as well. By choosing certified organic cotton, you can help farmers like Cengiz make the switch!
