It is not always easy to figure out which title to use. Even family members and media, as well as people who are more or less experts, like me, sometimes have difficulties. Just say: it is complicated. And if you're not sure, better check or ask someone with more knowledge. I am always surprised when seeing mistakes in the titles in death announcements, especially in the United Kingdom....

On Tuesday, 2 April 2024, Balmoral Castle in Scotland, United Kingdom, announced that the grounds, gardens and exhibitions will be open on a daily basis from 4 May to 22 August 2024. But there was a special announcement this year. For the first time since the castle was completed in 1855, the British King, Charles III, has given permission for private tours with guides through the castle itself....

A new exhibition opened at the Queen Sonja Art Stable in the former Royal Stables of the Royal Palace in Oslo, Norway, in presence of Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Princess Astrid, Mrs Ferner. After a more than € 20,3 million renovation, that took 16 years, the Palace of Aigai, near the city of Vergina, in the north of Greece, has reopened on 7 January 2024. The palace is the largest surviving building from the classical Greek era. The palace in Aigai was built more than 2,300 years ago by King Philip II, in what at the time was the capital of the Kingdom of Macedonia....

It had been a while since I updated the Royal Houses section. With the latest changes of throne in Denmark and Malaysia, it was about time to do something about it. It turned out most pages hadn't been updated since 2020. I only didn't have a look at the links at the bottom. Lately I also had a look at the Anniversaries. Also here some changes were made. Please, let me know if I have overlooked something.

The Dutch magazine Royalty, issue 1/2024, of course paid a lot of attention to the succession of the throne in Denmark. I wrote an article for it with the title "Negen x Koning Frederik" (Nine x King Frederik), which was a portrait of the previous kings of Denmark with the name Frederik. The new Dutch TV series and accompanying book "Het verhaal van Nederland: Oranje Nassau. A new history of the Netherlands and the royal house" by Dorine Hermans and Marchien den Hertog, do mention how the Nassaus eventually ended up in the Netherlands. However, the link between Count Engelbrecht I of Nassau and Willem (William) "the Silent" of Nassau, prince of Orange (1533-1584), is missing....

Vanaf woensdag 31 januari 2024, 20.30 uur toont de Nederlandse tv-zender NPO 1 een nieuwe serie over de geschiedenis van het Huis Oranje-Nassau. De achtdelige serie heet: "Het verhaal van Nederland: Oranje Nassau. Een nieuwe geschiedenis van Nederland en het koningshuis". Het bijbehorende boek, geschreven door Dorine Hermans en Marchien den Hertog, landde eerder al op mijn deurmat. De eerlijkheid gebiedt mij te zeggen, dat ik de vorige serie "Het verhaal van Nederland", over de geschiedenis van het land zelf, niet heb gezien....
