Chinese food law made accessible to a non-Chinese audience:

Chinese food law
Edited by Jasmin Buijs, Bernd Van der Meulen and juanjuan SUN

The People's Republic of China is one of the largest importers and exporters of food products in the world. After the melamine crisis fundamentally challenged its food legal infrastructure, the PRC now boasts one of the most modern systems of food law in the world. This makes Chinese food law very interesting for its own sake but also as a source for comparison and inspiration.
You don't need a background related to food, to law or to China to enjoy this book.

How has the new round of farmland certification in China affected farmers’ economic welfare?
Dan Yang, Xiaoli Wang, Yu Tang, Zimin Liu, Xiaohua Yu
It is vital to evaluate the effects of China’s farmland certification programme on farmers’ economic welfare and clarify the impact mechanism. This paper uses the China Labour Dynamics Survey (2014, 2016),1 building endogenous switching regression and endogenous switching probit models to test the impact of the farmland certification programme on farmers’ net agricultural income and poverty status after correcting for endogeneity.

Agricultural support and spatial price transmission: evidence from China’s maize sector
Jiawu Dai, Yuchen Feng, Yan Wang, Xiuqing Wang
A market-oriented reform of China’s 2016 Temporary Purchase and Storage Policy (TPSP) is important for improving the price-forming mechanism of maize. Using monthly, province-level panel data and a dynamic spatial econometric model, this study distinguishes the heterogeneous spatial price transmissions of maize under officially supportive and market-oriented regimes.

Promoting global well-being through fairtrade food: the role of international exposure
Fred A. Yamoah, David Eshun Yawson
Social preference theory highlights an alternative explanation for consumption choices that are not consistent with rational economic decision making. In the current research, social preference theorizing is advanced by highlighting consumers’ exposure to developing countries (international exposure) as a factor that increases disposition to support fairtrade.

The food sciences cover a wide area from ethics to microbiology; from toxicology to law; from marketing to genetics. Professionals in the food sector may have to deal daily with issues related to another expertise than their own and with colleagues who have their expertise in any of these fields.
'Applied food science' provides an introduction to all different fields collectively known as the food sciences. Understanding the basics of other professionals’ expertise will improve mutual understanding and communication. It will help to ask the right questions at the right moment to the right person.
