(NL) De Paddentrek Potmarge werkt officieel onder de naam PAD (Potmarge Amfibieën Doelgroep) al sinds 2012 bij de Potmarge in Leeuwarden om amfibieën veilig te helpen oversteken tijdens hun jaarlijkse trek. Het idee ontstond tijdens de trek in 2011, toen het de Van Hall Larenstein studenten Tariq Stark en Carlijn Laurijssen opviel hoeveel salamanders er in de Potmarge werden aangereden en er niets
tegen werd gedaan. Zij stichtten in het seizoen van 2012 PAD op, in samenwerking met andere studenten, Van Hall Larenstein en gemeente Leeuwarden. PAD richt zich niet alleen op het helpen van de amfibieën maar ook op educatie voor studenten, leerlingen en buurtbewoners. Seizoenen
Het eerste seizoen (2012) bleek een groot succes te zijn want er werden maar liefst 539 amfibieën geteld! Hieronder valt ook een populatie van ruim 200 gewone padden waar niemand van wist dat die bestond. Besloten werd om met PAD door te zetten. Het tweede seizoen van PAD (2013) kenmerkte zich door een enorme toename van het aantal vrijwilligers en toevoeging van coördinator Jeroen Breidenbach. Tijdens het tweede seizoen zijn er naast de overzetactie presentaties gegeven op Van Hall Larenstein en een instructieavond voor de vrijwilligers. Het seizoen werd op een fantastische manier afgesloten met het winnen van de eerste prijs "Van Hall Larenstein Golden Globe Awards" , een nominatie bij de Leeuwarder Courant Awards en een publicatie in het digitale magazine FrogLog van de IUCN Amphibian Specialist Group.
2014 zal voor PAD het derde seizoen worden en ook een aantal nieuwe projecten bevatten: dit jaar zal PAD zich ook inzetten om buurtbewoners erbij te betrekken, voorlichtingsavonden te geven en ook leerlingen van andere scholen erbij te betrekken. De coördinatie wordt geregeld door Jeff Peereboom (Hoofdcoördinator), Xandra Sleeuwenhoek (Contactpersoon) en Sophie Ewert (Coördinator Educatie)
(EN) Since 2012, the Paddentrek Potmarge works officially with the name PAD (Potmarge Amphibian Target group) at the Potmarge in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands to aid amphibians in safely crossing the road during their annual migration. The idea was formed during the migration of 2011 when the Van Hall Larenstein University students Tariq Stark and Carlijn Laurijssen noticed that a lot of newts were being road killed in the Potmarge. To support the newts, they found PAD in cooperation with other students, the Van Hall Larenstein University and the municipality of Leeuwarden before the next season in 2012. PAD aims not only on supporting amphibians but also on education for students and local residents. Seasons
With the total counting of 539 amphibians including a population of 200 common toads of which nobody knew that they existed, the first season (2012) turned out to be a huge success. Due to this success it was decided to continue with PAD. The second season (2013) saw a huge rising in supporting volunteers and the addition of coordinator Jeroen Breidenbach. Besides supporting the amphibians, presentations and instruction lessons were also provided to Van Hall Larenstein University students. The season ended with being rewarded first at the Van Hall Larenstein Golden Globes Awards, a nomination at the Leeuwarden Courant Awards and a publication in the digital magazine of Froglog of the IUCN Amphibian Specialist Group. This year (2014) will mark the third season for PAD and shall contain several new projects: PAD will also try to involve local residents, provide information evenings and attracting students from other schools.
