Neumann WV2 based phono stage stand alone set

For customers and/or prospective buyers who don't have an appropriate EMT 927 and/or EMT 930 available and like to use the Neumann WV2 based phono stage a tailor-made power supply with interface box is available so the Neumann WV2 based phono stage set can be used stand alone with every other turntable set. The power supply with toroidal transformer can be used aside of the phono stage and needs 220VAC/50Hz.

Back to 1953

In the EMT Kurier No. 18 from 1971 EMT reported proudly of an EMT R80 from 1953 which was in service at the Hessischen Rundfunk (Hessian Broadcasting) for 20 years and which came back to the EMT factory for investigation and measurement, after 20 years of 24/7/365 use the specifications were the same as when the turntable left the factory, a confirmation of the EMT R80's quality! The article's picture shows that the EMT R80 is equipped with a Neumann tonearm with mono DZT cartridge so my idea was to bring my EMT R80 # 34 back to 1953. My purchased Neumann DZT replica tonearm, bought for my Neumann PA2, was completely disassembled and modified so it could be used at the EMT R80 # 34 including controlling of the optical groove indicator, the set is playing perfectly in almost the same configuration as more then 70 years ago, only main difference, it's playing now in stereo instead of mono.

After a lot of sanding, filling and spraying, one of the custom made solid wooden plinths for my Neumann PA2 turntables is finally finished so the complete humble turntable set is ready for use now and doing where it was intended for, playing records.

Three generations

Last month two original EMT 139st series stereo MC phono stages were in my workshop for some humble repair and refurbish so there were three generations together, from left to right:

1. EMT 139st # 8007 from 1963, one from the first series made by EMT from 1959 till 1963 and provided with de-emphasis characteristics for NARTB, RIAA and DIN.

2. EMT 139st b # 10177 from 1965, one from the second series made by EMT from 1963 till 1967 and provided with de-emphasis characteristics for NAB-RIAA-DIN 33/45, DIN 78, BBC and Flat.

3. EMT 139st b replica # 24.125 from 2024, made by me from 2006 till present, so 18 years already and much longer than EMT ever made them.

Still going strong

Came in this morning in my workshop for regular technical check and maintenance, two legendary EMT 948 turntables with serial nrs. 56### from 1984 and still weekly used for live broadcasting programs at Radio Veronica here in The Netherlands, only complains from the customer, one brake system makes some noise and a couple of pilot lamps are broken, that's all after 40 years so still going strong, EMT turntables never die!

Early June 2024, arrival of a special new 12" tonearm for one of my Neumann PA2 turntables, custom made by Alfred Bokrand in Spain and based on the very rare and legendary Neumann DZT tonearm from the fifties, next step is to complete this Neumann turntable - tonearm set with an original or replica Neumann DST stereo MC cartridge.

Neumann PA2 restoration update

May 2024, finally found some time to continue the restoration, first of all the special made tonearm base extensions are black anodized and mounted back to the Neumann PA2 turntables and yes there are two of them now, some time ago I acquired a second one, serial no. 111 from 1958 and coming from the same source in Santiago - Chile so now there are two of these legends in my workshop.

Spinning time After months of meticulous restoration it was spinning time yesterday for both EMT 927F’s, the turntables are back in perfect working - and new looking condition, final activities are mounting of tonearm cabling, selecting tonearms and overall test, to be continued.
