WOENSDRECHT RECEIVES INTERNATIONAL PRICE FOR THE USE OF A DRONE PROJECT

The municipality of Woensdrecht received the "Catherine Fargeon Award" during the annual RPAS CivOps conference for drone users. This international award was presented to the municipality in The Hague on January 14, 2020 for deployment in the European drone project called ICAReS project.

Icares project
The municipality of Woensdrecht started the ICAReS project in 2016 together with eleven European partners. During the past three years, an innovation cluster has been set up with end users, SMEs, government institutions and knowledge institutions in the field of remote sensing and drone applications. The sectors we focus on are nature, agriculture and water and infrastructure. Work has been done jointly on uniform regulations in Europe and the development of new applications.

The Catherine Fargeon Award
UVS International is the global industry organization in the drone field and established the Catherine Fargeon Award in 2003. This prize bears the name of the first person to receive it, Dr. Catherine Fargeon, French Minister of Defense (Conseil Général de l'Armement). The award has since been awarded annually to individuals who have promoted the use of drones. It is important that they show the potential economic and social benefits of this.

Mayor Adriaansen: “With Aviolanda Woensdrecht, the municipality of Woensdrecht focuses on innovative activities in the aerospace and maintenance sector. Drones play an important role in this. That we have received this international award makes us very proud. It is a nice reward for the work that we have done together with all partners in recent years. ”
