The eighteenth military exercise of the North Atlantic Alliance, Spring Storm, ended in Estonia on Friday.

Almost 14,000 military personnel, including conscripts, reservists, conscripts, members of the Defense League and allied forces from 11 NATO countries, took part in the Spring Storm-23 exercise, which lasted from May 15 to 26.

The exercise assessed the synchronization of the Defense Forces' combat plans, cooperation between levels of command, and the readiness of units to perform combat missions.

The Court of Appeal of Antwerp sentenced 18 students of the University of Leuven to community service and fines in connection with the death of 20-year-old Sanda Dia, who died during a humiliating initiation rite.

The prosecution demanded a 50-month prison sentence for all the defendants, but the court ordered them to pay a fine of 400 euros to the family of the deceased and perform 300 hours of community service.

At the same time, if any of the convicted students fails to perform community service, they will receive an alternative sentence of 15 days in prison.

The defense of the 18 students, who were accused of manslaughter, intentional use of harmful substances, humiliating treatment and criminal negligence, pointed out that they immediately began to provide assistance to the deceased and called an ambulance.

The Antwerp Court of Appeal agreed and found that the students were not guilty of negligence or manslaughter.

Berlin police said on Friday that they had launched an investigation against Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters on suspicion of incitement over the outfit he wore during his performance in the German capital last week.

On Thursday, the Cypriot Parliament passed a bill criminalizing so-called conversion therapy, which is coercive measures to change sexual orientation for LGBT people.

The law amends the Cypriot Penal Code, defining as a criminal offense any practice, technique or service to change or suppress the sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression of any person.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto spoke in Belgrade on Friday at a rally in support of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

During an unannounced speech at a pro-government rally in support of the Serbian president, Szijjarto said that "instead of historical enmity between Hungary and Serbia, there is now historical friendship," and that "the Hungarian people now see the Serbs as a fraternal people."

"When the Serbian team plays against someone other than us, we always cheer for the Serbs," he said to the applause of the audience. He also personally thanked Aleksandar Vucic for establishing Serbian-Hungarian relations and noted the "exemplary" attitude towards the Hungarian community in Serbian Vojvodina.

According to Telex, Sijjarto read his several-minute speech in Serbian from a sheet, mispronouncing one of the sounds so that his speech could be mistaken for Slovak.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Ukraine has received about 90,000 tons of in-kind assistance, such as equipment and medicines, through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.

"This is by far the most complex, large-scale and longest operation under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism in the history of its existence," said European Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič.

According to him, the assistance included food, medicine, vehicles, generators, transformers and equipment for repairing power grids and other critical infrastructure.

"We even delivered things like sunflower seeds and equipment to protect cultural monuments," Lenarčič said.

In addition, more than two thousand patients and wounded from Ukraine have been treated in more than 20 EU countries, the European Commissioner added.

Ukraine officially joined the EU Civil Protection Mechanism on April 20, 2023. Under this mechanism, EU states and other countries cooperate in crisis and disaster preparedness and response.

The social network Twitter has withdrawn from the voluntary European Union Code of Practice on Disinformation.

Earlier this year, Twitter Inc. was the only major technology platform that did not submit a full report to the European Union in accordance with the code that the company agreed to follow before it was taken over by Elon Musk at the end of 2022.

The report lacked data and did not include the social network's commitments to allow fact-checkers, the European Commission said in February.

"Twitter is withdrawing from the EU's voluntary Code of Practice on Combating Disinformation. But the obligations remain. You can run away, but you can't hide," Breton tweeted late Friday night.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has proposed the candidacy of Defense Minister Milos Vucevic for the post of leader of the Serbian Progressive Party.

Vucic spoke at the party's congress in Kragujevac, Serbia, and announced that he was stepping down as leader of the political party.

"I propose that we elect Milos Vucic as the head of the SPS," the Serbian president said.

According to him, he is "too fond of" the Serbian Progressive Party and will never leave it as long as he is alive.

Vucic noted that he was proud to have "led the best party in the country for all these years."

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said that the day before, during the Independence Day celebrations, the country's Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze violated the protocol.

According to Salome Zurabishvili, while greeting the audience at Freedom Square in Tbilisi, Burchuladze first mentioned the Prime Minister, and only then the President and the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.

"This is not allowed in any country. It is bewildering everywhere. And I'll say something else: protocol is not only about protecting the state inside and establishing our relations. Whatever the difference in opinions, everyone should have their place," she said.

Zurabishvili emphasized that this was not an insult to the president, but a violation of protocol.

According to Zurabishvili, for three years she even tried to create a single protocol statute and establish coordination between various ministries and structures, including the Patriarchate, in order to "once and for all organize the protocol book of Georgia." But she failed because "everyone has their own little private ambitions," she added.

During the European Political Community (EaP) summit to be held on June 1, Moldova warns of restrictions on transport, airspace will be closed, and some international trains will not run.

It is noted that the airspace of Moldova will be closed during the summit. From midnight on June 1 to 7 a.m. on June 2, flights of all civilian aircraft, except for the aircraft of officials, will be prohibited.

For civilian unmanned aerial vehicles, the flight ban will be in effect from midnight on May 31 to 7 am on June 2.

Access to the parking lot at Chisinau Airport and the adjacent territories of the airport is prohibited from May 25 to 7 am on June 2.
