Keela Egan ._.e
Through curiosity, play and dance, Keela seeks to replicate the structural growth of organic forms in nature and thus the harmonious relationship between form and flow. In this performance Keela explored the interaction of the human body with a static structure using curiosity, play and dance.

‘As the performance unfolds, my body becomes physically entangled with the structure as I navigate the restraints of confined space. Through this, I seek to replicate the structural growth of organic forms in nature and thus the harmonious relationship between form and flow.’

Beniamin Mihai Visarion
‘Wrapped up’, Ceramics, 2024.

“Wrapped up” explores how plastic covers the beauty of microorganisms or underwater shapes and suffocates it. An entanglement of material, human made and natural. A toxic relationship that is more present everyday in our world.

‘Wire Formation’, at first glance a clear form of entanglement. But upon looking more closely at the installation we discover more layers of this entanglement. “The photographic series focuses on the electrical structures, masses of wires and the environment that have become an integral part of the South Asian norm, entailing the socio political, cultural and environmental implications from digital transformation. Rendering how analogue to digital conversation has visually affected our surroundings, changing the city’s fabric and the resources used to build the digital infrastructures, making it the central subject of technocentric reality.”

Danne Bouman ()
‘Una’, oil on canvas, 40x40cm, 2024.

In her work, Danne explores the relationships with the people she paints. These often being very complex connections, like for example mother to daughter. It is about the frustration of searching for connection, stuck dynamics and patterns of interaction.

Through a systematic use of patterns in the paintings, a barrier is created between the observer and the subject, giving the works a surreal feeling and representing this feeling of distance and miscommunication, which is further emphasized by the compositions where body language plays a central role.

Due to blurring, thick texture, and layering, the squares seem to change when light hits them from different angles. The image is clear from a distance but dissolves into complete abstraction up close, provoking viewers to linger and take their time.

Touch me Scoby by Luz, Gerben and Fardau.

Together they made a Kombucha pellicle and used its natural conductivity to generatively create sound. showcasing how the natural and the technological world are entangled. The audience was invited to interact with the work through touch, creating and controlling the sounds.

A beautiful installation by Bella consisting of a painting and a booklet resulting in a poetic interaction between the artworks itself and between the work and the viewer.

Shown during the exhibition ‘entangled’.

‘SEE’, 2024, Oil on canvas, 100 x 100 cm.

This self-portrait is about being and feeling seen. In English, “see” means to look, but in Afrikaans, “see” means the ocean. I’ve linked the act of looking to sailors and their striped shirts, which were worn to be easily spotted—just like prisoners’ uniforms. Similarly, lighthouses are striped not for aesthetics, but for practicality and visibility. The lighthouse, like the stripes, and the colour red helps make things and people seen.

‘Invisible’, 2024, Photo on paper A5 book
My work explores the experience of being seen and feeling seen, navigating the boundaries between visibility, identity, and anonymity. Using a personal symbolic language connected to visibility such as the colour red, striped shirts, lighthouses, and void-like holes, I investigate the act of looking and the power dynamics of observation. I like to put my own quirky spin on heavy themes such as voyeurism and the female target.

We are all set for the opening tonight at 19:00! We hereby also present you with the time table. As during today’s opening event we have art of al sorts. From the visual to the physical, to see, to hear and to feel. To entangle our senses into something more, something new perhaps?

We look forward to welcoming you!

📍Praediniussingel 59, Minerva.

PS. There will be drinks served, donation based. As an officially registered nonprofit organisation all support is welcome to realise our exhibitions. With each drink or loose donation you support the platform and thus help artists in showing their work to a larger audience.

2ndFloor provides a platform in which we invite artists to play and experiment with exhibiting their work, regardless of their experience. A space to connect with the audience but also with each other while removing the walls that artists often face when trying to get into an artistic institution. We aim to become a bridge to bring these artists closer to the art scene and to at the same time make art more available to the public.

We proudly introduce the first five artists that will be part of the exhibition ‘Entangled’.
Opening coming Tuesday at 19:00!

Marta Calero Segura .alla
‘I use my life itself as material, I become art, my art becomes me, my heart is hard to handle, my art is too. It is impossible for me to encompass the totality of how it feels to be in a single work, my experience is fragmentary.’

Annemiek van der Hoek
‘Only in that encounter with the other do we blossom as human beings. Without the other, without the mirror of the stranger, our self-image remains incomplete and we remain in our own safe bubble. We define ourselves by how we relate to others. But who are you in the eyes of yourself or the other if there is no other (anymore)?’

Elle Meijer .janna_
‘A thread by itself is nothing, but entangeld with other threads and colors it creates a new world and reality. Emotions are sometimes the same, an emotion alone is strong, but together it becomes a mix of confusion and chaos. Despite that, it can also produce a result, be it positive or negative.’

Karlo Štefanek .stefanek
In his performance, Štefanek is both the subject and the object of his manifestation — a dual role, being both the protester and the one protested against, emphasizes the complexity of self perception and societal impact.

Gillian Heinsohn .gillz
‘Light falls into the intricately calculated lense of our eye, illuminating something in our otherwise dark body, triggering an electrical impulse that is miraculously analysed and transformed into something that holds meaning and emotion.’

Our open call is officially over! We received A LOT of applications, so thanks to everyone for applying. We are going through them as we speak and will let you hear back from us soon! ☺️

Meanwhile here is some more information on the actual exhibition ‘Entangled’.

12th - 16th of November
✨OFFICIAL OPENING: Tuesday 12th at 19:00✨

Entangled ➿
knotted relationships
When opposites collide and intertwine, where do they find their middle ground? Is this a battle or a natural harmonious process? Who sacrifices? How do these elements, that once felt so distant from each other, start to become so tied up that they’ve become something new.
Is there only disconnect? Or do they find the reconnection somewhere in the middle.

We are working hard to realize the exhibition and we hope to see you there!

Let’s have a look again at our previous event!

We made an exhibition as part of Decennial Dialogue.
Thirty stories of alumni from the 2013 graduation year have been collected in a publication. In addition, the research is presented in an exhibition showcasing recent work by 10 alumni. In response, we from 2nd Floor showed the work of 10 current students selected based on the alumni’s work.

✨ Our open call for the next event is still running and it is open for everyone that wants to apply.

Is there only disconnect? Or do they find the reconnection somewhere in the middle.

Are you unraveling the tangled-up mess of the roots, wires, and knots?

Then we are looking for you!

Our new exhibition “Entangled” is focused on opposites that intertwine. Is this something you are working with? Have you made something within this theme that you are dying to show to the world?

Then apply for our Open Call. (link to google forms in bio)
Tell us about you and the work. A work-in-process is also allowed as long as you have a finished result at the time of the exhibition.

The deadline of filling in the form is on the 20th of October, Sunday.

We are looking forward to your applications.
