Did you know that the energy from the sun may not come from above, but "from below your feet"? ๐Ÿ˜‰
With renewable energy, the moment of generation often does not coincide with the moment of consumption. Underground we can find necessary space to store the surplus. But how can we do this in a way that allows us to actually use the energy once we need it? ๐ŸŽฅ

TUDELFT180 | TACKLING THE BATTERY CHALLENGE ๐Ÿ”‹

The energy transition poses several challenges. Batteries, essential for storing energy and driving mobility, are therefore a crucial research topic. For example, we often want to use energy at times other than when the sun is shining or the wind is blowing. We need to efficiently store the energy for the moments when we need it. In the TU Delft Reactor Institute, processes in batteries are closely examined. How can we overcome current limitations?

To keep our planet liveable, we need to move quickly towards a sustainable energy system.
A system that is greener and smarter and which is just as safe and robust as todayโ€™s electricity grid. A system that allows everyone to connect their solar panel and that allows any vehicle to recharge without any problems.

Check out the next video in our TU Delft Lustrum series, in which prof. Miro Zeman introduces the Electrical Sustainable Power Lab, as well as its necessity!

SeaClear ๐ŸŒŠ

At this moment, 26-66 million tons of waste pollutes the sea. 94% of which is on the seafloor, difficult to collect. Now, this is only removed on a small scale by divers. An international team, under coordination of TU Delft prof. Bart de Schutter, aims for a scalable solution by developing underwater robots that autonomously collect litter: SeaClear. A challenge, because how to collect without harming marine life? Check it out! ๐ŸŽฅ

Together we innovate!

The pandemic has had an impact on students. But not just negatively: many students set to work to see if they could mean something for now or for the future. This also applies to this group of Electrical Engineering students. They seized the shortage of mouth masks as a starting point to see whether the use of electronics could make mouth masks more effective and more environmentally friendly! ๐ŸŒฑ They ended up being one of the first to successfully use UV sterilization in a wearable format. This is how the students managed to get something valuable from the crisis for the future!
