// About Komodo: A Paradise Under Pressure //
In 2017, VR Gorilla followed a team of scientists and divers to create a film on their quest to study Indonesia’s iconic manta rays and Komodo dragons, and how plastic pollution is threatening their survival. The film, which is a Watermen Project @vrgorilla and Blend Media collaboration, takes you on an incredible journey through the waters and islands of Komodo National Park; a unique ecosystem situated in the Indonesian archipelago.
World record freediver and Ocean Explorer William Winram William Winram, together with his protégé marine biologist Lukas Müller , go to extreme lengths to show you the beauty of the park and some of its iconic inhabitants, including the deadly Komodo Dragon and the giant Reef Manta Ray.
During their dives they assist Nat Geo’s “Queen of Mantas” Andrea Marshall Andrea Marshall who is researching the manta ray population in the Park.
This project would not have existed were it not for Dr. Andrea Marshall from the Marine Megafauna Foundation Marine Megafauna Foundation and her generous donor who put her boat at the service of the oceans in this project.

Once they were viewed as dragons, mythical animals that roamed the islands of Komodo national park: The Komodo dragon. These giant lizards were already living on earth about 40 million years ago, sadly only in our age their existence has come under threat of extinction.
If you come to Komodo to film the mantas and the park they of course have to be one of the main characters. Though it is not a small feat as Komodo dragons can be very dangerous to humans. They have no fear of humans and will bite if they get the chance, filling the wound of their victim with poison.
So if you do want to film them, you have to do it right and be extra careful. Luckily the people from Watermen project Watermen Project, who were handling the cameras, were experienced in working with big predators, (like great white sharks). They did an amazing job filming them in the water, (as we were all holding our breath worrying about them 😉 An we even managed to get a camera on the beach, which now allows you to stand in the middle of their group in VR.
One more day and you'll be able to experience it in VR yourself 😀

Once we arrived in the park we were excited to start filming the animals and beauty of the park, but quickly found that the paradise that we were looking to film was slowly fading and that being there also had a dark reality to it: There was plastic all around the islands, and the iconic Komodo dragon was living in it as were all the animals in the waters surrounding it.
The researchers explained to us that even though you might not be able to see these microplastics with your naked eye, they are there and they are slowly suffocating the oceans and animals in it.
From that moment on we knew we had to incorporate the story of plastics into our film. Just showing the beauty would not do justice to the animals in park, and with this film we had a chance to create a bigger understanding of the issue, while at the same time letting people experience a unique ecosystem with incredible species in it. A clear reason to abandon single use plastics...

Keukenhof Flower 'Garden of Europe' Guided Tour in 360 3D
This is the first episode of 'A Gorilla Travels: the Dutch Edition'.
In this series we explore the beauty and wonder of our home country: the Netherlands! 🌷🌳☀️
In this first episode we discover Visit Keukenhof, one of the largest flower gardens in the world, also known as 'The Garden of Europe'. Normally the Keukenhof would attract roughly 1.5 million visitors over a periode of 8 weeks (when the flowers are in full bloom), but this year, because of COVID-19, the park remains closed. Very sad news for the park, but it does create a unique opportunity to capture the park in full glory.
By creating this content we hope to share the beauty of the Keukenhof with virtual visitors worlwide, so all the hard work the park has put into creating this years flower extravanganza doesn't go completely to waste.
Of course best experienced with a VR headset!

This is Holland - Top Touristic Attractions During Covid-19 'Lockdown'
Trying to make the most of the current situation, we seized the moment to capture four of the Netherlands' most visited cultural hotspots. Filmed of course with taking the Dutch corona regulations into account.
In recent weeks we visited Giethoorn, Zaanse Schans, Keukenhof and the picturesque Kinderdijk. Each location is good for about 1 to 2.5 million visitors per year, and this time of year they are usually very busy.
In this compilation we share some shots form all four locations. Giving a beautiful but also eerie feel.. In the next few weeks we will release 'A Gorilla Travels' episodes for these destinations, so people all over the world can still enjoy the beauty of the Netherlands.
Of course best experienced with a VR headset!

360 View From Baiyoke Tower, Bangkok
Last July we were traveling SE Asia. Our first stop was Bangkok. Check out this awesome view over the city, shot from Baiyoke Tower.
We are working on a series of VR videos covering Thailand, Laos, Cambodja and Bali so stay tuned for more 360 VR!
Surely one of the most gorgeous sunsets we have witnessed! While in Komodo National Park we had the pleasure of hiking to the top op Padar island; one of the 29 islands that the park is rich.
From the top of the hill you have an amazing 360 degree view over the park and the ocean. This is the setting for the film we are working on, which will show you the beauty of this national park and it’s inhabitants, but will also show how this ecosystem is under pressure - mainly by plastic pollution.
More coming soon!

Cows Grazing On Massive Bali Landfill
On our recent trip to Southeast Asia, producing the upcoming film about Komodo National Park, we made a stop on Bali.
Beautiful though the island was, we were astonished by the amount of garbage we’d see on any given beach, or in any given street. It was easy to see that the island has a serious waste management issue.
We decided to check out the landfill ‘Tempat Pembuangan Akhir’, where all the garbage of the island piles up in an ever growing mountain of waste.. Take a 360 look for yourself. Don’t scare away the cows grazing there ;).

Giant Reef Manta - Komodo Indonesia
The main character in the upcoming film we are producing with The Watermen Project and 360 Videos is the iconic Reef Manta. This gorgeous animal, belonging to the largest species of ray, cruises the Komodo islands and the oceans beyond.
Reef mantas typically reach a disc width of 3 to 3.5 meters, but can sometimes grow up to 5.5 meters (18 ft)! Being super close and surrounded by up to 10 mantas is a humbling, almost spiritual experience which we will never forget.
We have captured some amazing footage of this majestic creature, which we are post-producing for the film. We just wanted to share this first glimpse of what’s to come :D.

Komodo Dragons on Rinca Island, Komodo National Park
Komodo dragons captured in 360 VR in their natural habitat for the very first time!
Seeing Komodo dragons in real life was a humbling and very exciting moment. We had seen this majestic creature plenty of times in wildlife documentaries but never thought we would see them up this close in real life!
As we reached the shore with a small speedboat, a group of dragons laying on the beach picked up our scent and dove straight into the water to come for us. It’s possible they smelled the sandwiches we had onboard, but it felt more like they figured we were on the menu ;).
The Komodo dragon is the largest living species of lizard. They are notorious predators that kill by ambushing their prey and inflicting a bite with a deadly cocktail of venom and bacteria. The diet of big Komodo dragons mainly consists of deer and carrion.
It is also vulnerable species that is on the IUCN Red List and although the Komodo National Park was brought to life to protect these animals and their habitat, we have seen massive pollution throughout the park, as we will show in the upcoming film we are working on with The Watermen Project, 360 Videos and Marine Megafauna Foundation.
