Reminder: This Friday, we’re hosting a special evening session with Artist, Music Producer, and Activist Julia Mandoki, who will present her debut album, The Dark Side of the Womb. Julia is an Abbey Road Institute Amsterdam alumna and part of our teaching team. Alongside teaching songwriting and sound theory at our Institute, Julia has spent years advocating for women’s rights through international NGOs, supporting women’s access to safe healthcare worldwide.
Her album combines her experiences in both music and human rights work. Over two years, she recorded it while engineering for artists like Son Mieux, Mike Boddé, and Jasper Blom, balancing studio life with campaigning, counselling, and speaking up for women. Whenever she found a moment, she wrote a song.
Julia will guide us into her sonic world of psychedelic folk and progressive storytelling, sharing how she connects emotion with strategic production choices and balances form with content. The 12-track album was recorded partly in top-tier studios and partly on her houseboat; proof that for Julia, the song always comes first.
On Friday, she will be joined by Dave Warmerdam (production and keys) and Alessandro Ciniero (recording engineer), both ARI Amsterdam alumni as well.
Join us for the journey this Friday at 19:00 and learn more about the creation, production and collaboration of her upcoming album. Make sure to register for free via the link in our bio or on our website.
