Dutch Toms Creek Revives Fishing Lakes ’t Mun Appeltern
Commercial fisheries in the Netherlands are offering more and more opportunities for anglers. One of the country’s leading providers is Tom Bremer, founder of Toms Creek, who now owns and operates three commercial fisheries across the Netherlands. At these three locations, anglers can fish for F1, carp, sturgeon, catfish, and trout.
The well-known fishing park in Appeltern is getting a new lease on life. Toms Creek is expanding with a third location, taking over and continuing the existing ’t Mun fishing lakes, ensuring that this special place for sport anglers will be preserved. The company also has ambitious plans to further develop the park into a complete fishing and outdoor experience, with exciting activities for all ages.
Earlier, there were rumors that the site would be sold to a property developer and the lakes would disappear. Fortunately, that’s not the case. After more than 32 years, the park will remain open—now under the Toms Creek banner, which already operates in Lelystad, Zwolle, and now Appeltern.
Tom Bremer, founder of Toms Creek:
“We’re proud to be able to preserve and continue this beautiful place. ’t Mun is a location with a lot of history and meaning for many anglers. Personally, I’ve always loved this site and couldn’t imagine it disappearing. Being able to breathe new life into it under the name Toms Creek Appeltern and develop it further feels very special.”
Anglers can continue to enjoy their familiar fishing spots, and the camper area will also remain available. The park will gradually take on the recognizable Toms Creek style, featuring wooden accents, palm trees, Mediterranean plants, and improved facilities such as QR-code ordering for food, drinks, and bait right from your fishing spot. The location will also serve as a day activity center for people with special care needs.
A recent inventory confirmed that the fish stock in all lakes is already of high quality. In the past week, new sturgeons have been added to the adventure lakes, and more sturgeons, carp, and catfish will follow soon. The park features two large adventure lakes with sturgeon, catfish, and carp, a dedicated Carp Lake, and the Species River (formerly the salmon trout river) with a variety of fish species. In the near future, a Big Game Lake and three trout ponds will be added as well.
Beginner anglers are more than welcome at Toms Creek Appeltern. The on-site tackle shop offers fishing gear for sale or rent if you don’t have your own equipment. You can also book a fishing coach to teach you the tips and tricks of angling. Toms Creek will also focus on groups, children’s parties, and company outings. In addition to fishing, new outdoor activities such as Wild Games — including air rifle & archery shooting and axe throwing — will be introduced.
The grand opening will take place on Friday, October 10, 2025. Gates open at 8:00 AM, and fishing begins at 8:30 AM. The café will also be open for anglers, visitors, and passing cyclists.
Toms Creek Appeltern will be open five days a week, closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and operates with fixed fishing sessions from 08:30–12:30 and 13:00–17:00.
Tickets can be booked online in advance via the Toms Creek website or purchased on-site at the wooden lodge reception.
If you ever visit the Netherlands, it’s definitely worth stopping by one of these locations!
