New studio exposition starting this Saturday: Keeping It Locked 🎶

Phoebe Janssen’s () Keeping It locked (2023) is a multimodal research project on online independent and community radio making in Amsterdam through multi exposure analogue photography, text and sound. 

Interviews and intimate yet liminal photographs of radio makers from Echobox radio, Ja Ja Ja Nee Nee Nee, Radio Oedipus, Radio TNP, Radio Weesper, Red Light Radio, RRFM, Slim Radio and Spuistreet Records, the series asks how Amsterdammers are reinterpreting the medium of radio and where are they coming together to do so? What motivates them and how do the different stations relate to the physical and sonic landscape of the city❣️

The exposition will be on until July 1st. Drop by for the opening this Saturday at 17:00!

We’re thrilled to welcome Mim Suleiman - a powerhouse performer whose music lights up dancefloors and hearts across the globe - to RADIO TNP AT THE BEACH. Born in Zanzibar and now based in Sheffield, Mim’s sound blends East African Taarab, Swahili rhythms, and traditional proverbs with the deep grooves of house, funk, and soul. Her collaborations with Maurice Fulton have produced five acclaimed albums, and her track “Mingi” was the first African song featured in Grand Theft Auto V.

A former metallurgist turned singer-songwriter, Mim sings in Swahili, English and Fula - weaving stories of love, freedom, unity, and everyday life. Whether headlining stages from Buckingham Palace to Tasmania, hosting her own Tungi Shows, or documenting East African women’s voices in uSISTA, she brings culture, spirit, and joy wherever she goes 💕

Sun, sand, sea and T-N-P! We know our listeners have the firiest sunglasses and a thing for swimming - it was about time we take care of matters and bring the three letters to the beach…

If you don’t know Mim Suleiman (), you’ve probably heard stuff by her, or by her producer Maurice Fulton. Banging beats with interesting percussion provide the background to her infectious singing rooted in East African Taarab and Swahili music, warming up hearts of many and lighting up dancefloors all around the world (and is even featured in Grand Theft Auto V). It is a true honour to have her perform for this special occasion!

Or:la () will soundtrack the nightly hours with her versatile mix of driving electronica. She has been a mainstay of the circuit for quite a while now, also running a label and producing, and has been on our list for quite some time now. Last year saw the release of her first album, proving once more her sensibilities reach far beyond the dancefloor.

Longtime TNP-resident, Okonkole Y Trompa co-head and Rush Hour-affiliate Satoshi Yamamura (.okonkole) knows his stuff. Like really. Expect oddities, wonky house, good times and not to be bored. To complete the line-up, early hour sounds are served by your well-drilled Radio TNP DJ-guards.

Our content varies from guest mixes by our favorite upcoming artists to radio shows in which scientific talk is alternated with matching music. Alongside our radio content, we organize a series of events throughout the Netherlands, such as “Durma Dans Et” and “Frei”.
