Andy Moor and Anne-James Chaton present the second installment in the Handmade series, a collection of four digital singles based on an exploration of the lexicons specific to traditional metiers. With guest Yannis Kyriakides on electronics, they create works where abstract notions mix with tangible ones by linking the arts of the hand with sound and poetry.

In HANDMADE volume 02 BRILLANTS, Anne-James Chaton explores the unique vocabulary used in jewelry. On Side A, ‘The Blue Moon’ extraordinary diamonds become superstars projecting mesmerizing hues around them, as on a cinema screen. On Side B, ‘Mon Chaton,’ the poet plays with the curious ambiguities of the jewelers’ jargon.

.... To realise his musical statement, Kyriakides worked with texts and voice samples, including music drawn from the Folkways music library and an extensive compilation put together by the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation. And there are spoken words from written texts and newsreel clips too. None of this information quite prepares us for the strange mix of textures we hear, amounting to a very fragmented and impressionistic take on his theme. It’s also, not unreasonably, tinged with sadness – a hint of melancholic nostalgia for the past, and mourning the consequences of society’s dependence on this “beautiful and dangerous rock”.

In 20 minutes from now we start a marathon 6 hour - 4 x 90 minutes sets of Yannis Kyriakides piece Mutability in the Muziekgebouw as part of the Holland Festival ....we are 12 musicians each with our own separate stage/cage - I say cage because it does feel like we are animals in a zoo ...the structure of set and colour is determined by an algorythm but we decide what we play ( luckily) ....it will be intense ...audience can walk around freely or sit down ....
