Tomorrow's the big day! Get your tickets now (available through the link in the comments) and experience Dark Green for yourself – screening in cinemas throughout the Netherlands on Saturday April 2nd and Sunday April 3rd.

“Almost transcendental, hypnotic” // “Felt like the last frontier that’s untouched and demands preservation” // “Clear, crisp shots that put National Geographic to shame” // “Ten out of ten”

Over the past year, part one of Dark Green – that is, the first 30 minutes of the extended version being shown in Dutch cinemas this weekend – has been surfing the international film festival waves: screened at 14 festivals, and even coming away with 5 accolades (see below). Combine this with some absolutely glowing audience feedback (quoted above), and it becomes clear that Dark Green does exactly what it was set out to do: give viewers 'back home' an intimate, almost private jungle experience that creates or deepens their connection with nature.

Dijon (France) | Dijon International Adventure Film Festival | Audience Award
Los Angeles (USA) | Environmental Film and Screenplay Festival | Best Cinematography
Tennessee (USA) | Lookout Wild Film Festival | Honorable Mention
Belgrade (Serbia) | International Green Culture Festival GREEN FEST | Special Mention
Junglighat (India) | Golden Leaf International Film Festival | Best International Short Film

…with other screenings taking place in Barcelona, Trinidad and Tobago, New York, Florida, Bangkok, Copenhagen, Brussels and San Francisco.

Dark Green revolves around American conservationist and author Paul Rosolie, and the undeniable urgency of his work in the Amazon.

The film is set on the banks of the Las Piedras river, the longest artery in the Madre de Dios watershed in South-East Peru. It is one of the most biologically diverse places on the planet, home to some of the world’s last uncontacted indigenous tribes. Paul's mission is to protect this river – which now functions as a road into the unprotected – and thereby create a conservation corridor: a passageway that unites and fortifies Peru's largest national parks.

Amidst writing two books on the topic and creating an award-winning short film, Paul has helped found ecotourism company and the NGO – whose rangers patrol and safeguard almost 74,000 acres of pristine jungle. We hope Dark Green can spotlight the vital importance of his efforts from a fresh perspective, and inspire others to follow in his fearless footsteps.

"Imagine a grandfather trying to explain to his grandkids: 'When I was young, nature was more wild and more beautiful.' Will we reach a point where we just completely forget the paradise that we lost?"

Dark Green started as a passion project of Aagje van Meerwijk and Jesper Buijvoets, the couple (of directors) seen in action here. Acutely aware of the multiple crises our rainforests are in, they nevertheless felt ill-equipped to explain back home what is happening – and why it matters so much. Seemingly, words alone cannot fully capture the richness of this extremely biodiverse system, or how utterly dependent we all are on 'nature'. They needed to find another way to address the underlying problem: the phenomenon, often referred to as 'generational amnesia', that is poignantly expressed by Paul Rosolie in the example above.

This set them on the path towards creating something that goes beyond your usual nature documentary. An intense jungle experience, free of explanatory voice-overs, focusing instead on the feels and sounds of the jungle. Inviting viewers to go on their own journey, to experience it for themselves… and to fall in love. In order to achieve this, they teamed up with a brilliant and dedicated crew featuring creatives from across the globe – and together, they were able to pull off something very special.

Come and experience it for yourself! On April 2nd and 3rd, is screening across the Netherlands. (Tickets are available through the link in bio.)

The short film Dark Green is made up of two parts. In part one – "Alone in the Amazon" – adventurer, biologist and storyteller takes a deep dive into the Peruvian jungle. He travels alone, in search of the last remaining wilderness on Earth. It is a journey into the heart of the jungle, but equally an investigation into the relationship between modern humans and nature. Part two – "The Conservation Story" – teaches us more about the area. What's so unique about this region of Peru, a province so rich in natural beauty that it bears the name Mother of God? What dangers threaten it? And what efforts is Paul taking for its protection?

On the 2nd and 3rd of April, Dark Green will be screened throughout the Netherlands as part of Nature on Tour – an initiative of and .

An atlas of the human lung

Lung diseases, such as COPD and interstitial lung diseases are a leading cause of death, with increasing incidence and lack of curative treatments. Asthma is a highly prevalent lung disease that cannot be cured, and the recent COVID-19 pandemic has proven the potential impact of infectious lung disease.

The development of novel therapeutic treatments for these diseases is hampered by our incomplete knowledge of the cellular complexity of the lung. To get a better grip on this, we need knowledge about the different types of cells in the lung, what their specific characteristics are and how they communicate with each other in healthy and diseased individuals. To achieve this, the DiscovAIR project will create an Atlas of the Human Lung.

In collaboration with the DiscovAIR project, Sensu created a 3D animation that illustrates the Atlas of the Human Lung. Step by step, we are sucked ‘deeper’ into our lungs, as the specific properties of different cell types are revealed to us. Thomas, head of animation, made use of a brown gradient and classic font throughout – giving the animation a rustic feel, while adding to the image of an old atlas.

Closing the gap between the lab and the clinic!

Predicting how a patient will respond to treatment, without leaving the lab? With the help of HUB Organoids, this is possible! The technology of HUB Organoids enables the development of patient-derived ‘mini-organs in a dish’, thereby closing the gap between the lab and the clinic.

Sensu recently worked together with HUB Organoids on the production of a new brand identity, and expanded on this through the addition of a new website. The result: a trustworthy and recognisable identity that conveys HUB’s expertise and revolutionary character. The branding – daring, bright and colourful – is echoed in the website’s playful design, which combines moving organoids, vibrant colours, and interactive infographics.

Sensu is steadily growing!

Let us introduce you to another new member of the team: Ferdinand!

As a 3D animator, Ferdinand translates our stories into inspiring and illuminating designs. By making these images move, he is able to create beautiful animations that really capture the essence of what needs to be communicated.

“It’s a really nice challenge to make technical animations for our clients at Sensu. In order to make the animations as complete and correct as possible, you really have to dive into the subject. Doing this, in collaboration with our clients and the diverse team at Sensu, makes me learn something new every day.”

Sensu creates content for a clearer future!

More than 16 million people worldwide are diagnosed with Retinal Vein Occlusion – one of the most common causes of vision loss. However, there is no treatment available to help these patients before complications occur. In order to solve this, Annexin Pharmaceuticals is developing their biological drug candidate ANXV: a recombinant human protein Annexin A5.

To explain the basic biochemical interaction of ANXV, Sensu first created a mechanism-of-action (MOA) animation. This animation shows how the human protein Annexin A5 normally functions when cells become stressed or damaged, and how ANXV can take over the protein's role whenever there's an insufficiency. A second animation explains exactly how ANXV can help patients who are suffering from Retinal Vein Occlusion.

In the shape of these two animations, Sensu managed to really reflect the sophisticated character of Annexin Pharmaceuticals.

Towards a hydrogen economy: making our planet liveable for generations to come!

With great pleasure, Sensu collaborated with the world’s first green, hydrogen-only infrastructure fund – FiveT – creating a new brand identity from scratch.

To tell the story of FiveT’s mission in the best way possible, Sensu designed the company's website as an animated, interactive experience. As a result, visitors get to follow the route of hydrogen: from production, to distribution, to application. Every step in this supply chain is visualised by colourful animations, along with bits and pieces of key information.
