Culture captures and encapsulates the ways of thought and behaviour of a society at a profound level. The aim of SPIN 180 BV is to promote Japanese artists and culture through the arranging of events such as exhibitions, shows, and participation in design shows and art events. We believe that there are many artists and those working in the cultural field in Japan who are finding it difficult to ha

ve their name heard abroad and thus are not finding the international recognition that they deserve. As a result of this problem, Japan as a nation lacks "soft power", the much sought-after ability to influence other nations through non-military or economic means. Here, at Spin180, we are looking to bridge that gap and provide Japanese artists with the means to achieve international recognition. Furthermore, through sponsorship of such events, we provide Japanese and non-Japanese companies with opportunities to be associated with socially enriching cultural events.

‘Despite these difficult times, many visitors came to the Exhibition especially.’

Thank you for the kind words of our great partners at the Japanisches Kulturinstitut Köln - which we, at Spin 180 BV, are celebrating at our AGM 2020 in Amsterdam this week.

Earlier in the year, with the help of our amazing partners at London Borough of Camden, we were able to deliver a major extended run in London, followed by our first exhibition in Germany at the Japanisches Kulturinstitut Köln.

Incorporating our first video, filmed in Kyoto, and accompanied by our first simultaneous online Exhibition, we were delighted that our ‘Kyoto Modernism’ show in Cologne attracted significant attention at such a time of serious constraints to normal life everywhere.

Looking forward, we believe that there are big opportunities, particularly now, to strengthen the feeling for and understanding of places through new perspectives - both through online exhibitions and events and in innovative settings. This is a time when audiences can be engaged and widened with exciting content and thrilling new perspectives. Let us know if you agree? Thank you for your great support.

Ein guter tag in Köln!

Spin 180 BV were delighted to meet with our friends at the Japanisches Kulturinstitut (The Japan Foundation) on Friday to review our recent successful ‘Kyoto Modernism’ Exhibition and to discuss the excellent art scene in Cologne and the Institute’s important role in it.

Very best wishes to the Japanisches Kulturinstitut for their new photography Exhibition ‘Tokyo - The City’ opening this Friday 11th September.

Many thanks to the wonderful Japanisches Kulturinstitut (The Japan Foundation) in Köln for completing a successful run with our Spin 180 BV ‘Kyoto Modernism’ Exhibition throughout June and July. The Japanisches Kulturinstitut reopened on June 2nd with our show and we are delighted with the excellent and enthusiastic response in person and online in these difficult times. Many congratulations to our friends at the Japanisches Kulturinstitut (The Japan Foundation) for their successful reopening - we are delighted that the reopening features our ‘Kyoto Modernism’ Exhibition - the largest show yet done in the West highlighting the amazing bringing together of traditional Japanese design principles and western modernist influences in the Kyoto School of Japanese Modernism - changing the way our world looks today. The Exhibition runs until 31st July.

Wegweisende Architekten und ihre Bauwerke

Die Stadt Kyoto ist vor allem für ihre traditionelle Architektur berühmt, doch vom späten 19. bis ins frühe 20. Jahrhundert entstanden viele moderne Bauwerke, die wegweisend für einen neuen Stil waren. Die Ausstellung stellt die drei bahn brechenden Architekten FUJII Koji (1888-1938), MAEKAWA Kunio (1905-1986) sowie TAKEDA Goichi (1872-1938) und deren Bauwerke vor darunter das Rathaus von Kyoto, den Veranstaltungsort Kyoto Kaikan und die Residenz Chochikukyo.

In these difficult times, we at Spin 180 BV welcome the decision of the German Government to allow the opening of museums and exhibitions, subject to social distancing, in the second stage of leaving lockdown.

‘Not to be missed’ - we were delighted to welcome Award winning film director Christopher Walker, famous for his work on television’s ‘South Bank Show’ over many years, to see our latest Exhibition ‘Kyoto Modernism’. The Exhibition is the biggest study yet in the West of the huge influence of the Kyoto School of architects on contemporary architecture and design around the world. Chris popped in just before the Exhibition closes today at the iconic modernist Swiss Cottage Library in North London.

Now on extended run. Birth of the cool - the story of how architects of the Kyoto School blazed a Modernist trail, developing traditional Japanese design and aesthetics into visions that changed the way our world looks now. Spin 180 BV’s groundbreaking ‘Kyoto Modernism’ Exhibition will now run until February 10th 2020 at the modernist classic Swiss Cottage Library London Borough of Camden - open 10am to 8pm Monday-Thursday and 10am-5pm Friday and Saturday. 2 minutes from Swiss Cottage Tube - two stops up from Baker Street Tube on the Jubilee Line.
